Andrew David Ridgway  1929-2012
6 July 2012

Andrew David Ridgway, 83, of Wildwood lost a courageous battle with leukemia on July 4, 2012. He was born on February 5, 1929, in Egg Harbor Township and spent his early years in Pleasantville.

He lived in this area since 1950. Andrew proudly served his country during WWII in Germany. He worked at Burke Motor Sales for over twenty five years achieving top salesman and Cadillac Salesman of the Year. For Andy, sales was not simply a job, once he sold you a car you were his friend for life. From the 60's to the 80's, he could be seen in the bleachers cheering on his children who were standout athletes at Middle Township High School. His passion for sports didn't end when his children graduated. He was an avid fan not only for his grandchildren but for all local athletes. Andy was truly a "people person". Whether you saw him at the gym, the diner or Shop-Rite, his quick wit, smiling face or strong handshake let you know you were important to him. His genuine interest in the lives of those around him and his contagious sense of humor made him a legend. He was referred to as the "Mayor" of the Lions Center in Wildwood where he resided. Dad was a fan of Frank Sinatra and these words from him epitomize the way Dad lived his life: "I would like to be remembered as a man who had a wonderful time living life, a man who had good friends and a fine family. I don't think I could ask for anything more than that".

He was predeceased by his first wife, and mother of his children, Ruth "Shirley" Ridgway; his second wife, Bertha Ridgway and a brother, Harold Ridgway. Family was everything to Andy; he leaves behind to cherish and carry on his memory his children: Andrew (Brenda) Ridgway; James (Nancy) Ridgway; Robert (Michele) Ridgway and Shelley (George) Vogelei; a brother, John "Jack" (Casceilia) Ridgway and a sister, Virginia "Ginny" Quinlin; his grandchildren, Scott Ridgway; Joe (Erin) Ridgway; Mark (Jen) Ridgway; Justin (Molly) Ridgway; James (Kym Douglass, fiancee) Ridgway; Ashley Vogelei; Zack Vogelei; Carly Ridgway and Abby Ridgway and great grandchildren: Tommy, Emily, Kyra, Gavin and Evan. He will also be dearly missed by treasured nieces and nephews and many, many close friends.

Services to honor the memory of Andrew will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012, at 11:00 am at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ where the family will receive visitors at 9:00 am until time of services. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to The Gene Sole Scholarship Fund, c/o Sturdy Savings Bank, 701 Washington Street, Cape May, NJ 08204. Condolences at www.radzieta.com

Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through,

Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
But God bath promised strength for the day,

Grace for the trials, help from above
Unfailing sympathy -- Undying love.

James H. Ridgeway Jr. 1942-2011

James H. Ridgeway Jr. "Jimmy" peacefully slipped away on Tuesday May 24, 2011 at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center, Vineland, comforted with family by his side. Jimmy's journey is now complete. The play field ready, God called "batter up". Coach grabbed the bat, stepped to the plate and swung, as he rounded the bases, Jesus said, "Jimmy's going-going-gone…. Jimmy's outta here and he slid safely "home"!

Jimmy was born January 25, 1942 in Bridgeton, New Jersey, to the late James H. and Margaret Bernice in Bridgeton, NJ. A lifetime resident of Bridgeton, he was educated and graduated from Bridgeton High School. He was formerly employed at Major Clothing and retired from E.I. DuPont after 35 years of employment. A Vietnam veteran, Jimmy served two years in the U.S. Army, and was a long time active member of Central United Methodist Church in Bridgeton, serving the church in numerous capacities until he became ill.

His name Jimmy was synonymous with the spirit of "volunteer-ism" giving freely of his time, finances, and faith. Serving God and community with 53 years as an active participant of the Bridgeton Babe Ruth League, member of the American Legion Post 95, a National / International Senator of the Jaycees, representing Bridgeton, Troop leader of Boy Scout Troop 99, member of the Kiwanis Club of Bridgeton, member of the Board of Directors of Salvation Army, organizer of the annual Bridgeton Christmas Parade, and active participant of the Bridgeton Invitational Tournament at Alden Field for 35 years, coining the phrase 'hats, bats, and fanny mats". Jimmy was honored with the following recognitions: Bridgeton Jaycee Man of the Year Award, John A. Cowan Memorial Award, and George J. Woodruff Memorial Award; Inductions: Bridgeton Black Hall of Fame, Bridgeton Sportsman's Corner, and most recently the Bridgeton Babe Ruth Field's renaming to the Ridgeway-Hunter Field.

It was once asked if Jimmy had a family of his own, the answer was Yes, because he personified the true meaning of parenthood. Jimmy was not only devoted to his personal family, but to anyone in need of encouragement urging them to "reach for the moon and if you fall short catch a star". "I can't" was never an option, saying "where there's a Ridge-there's a-Way". Jimmy was God's blessing to his family/friends, the Bridgeton community, and his country as God's Ambassador to the world. Jimmy will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory, brothers and spouses Eugene "Bucky", William Sr. "Billy and his wife Hester and family, James Jr. "Eddie" and  his wife Ruth and family, sisters and spouse Bernice "Patty" and her husband Kenny and family, and Constance "Connie" all of Bridgeton, and a special Godchild Kelly and her spouse Darnell McKenzie and daughter of Sewell, NJ. He is also survived by and sharing his memory, several uncles, aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Jimmy was predeceased by his mother Bernice, fathers James H. Ridgeway, Sr. and James E. Hands Sr., brother Arthur Napoleon and both paternal and maternal grandparents.
