Thomas relocated to New Castle from Salem county NJ in March 1855 (New Castle Courier Times Nov 10 1871)

Thomas was a blacksmith by trade. Upon his deathbed, Thomas asked his son Thomas, who was 13 years of age at the time, to take over the blacksmith shop. Thomas's son-in-law, George Melle, assisted the younger Thomas until he was able to run the shop himself.
