Marshall E. Durham born on February 28, 1916 was the son of the late Walter and Rosie Durham.

He departed this life on October 7, 1998 after a short illness. Marshall E. Durham was born and raised in Media, Pennsylvania where he completed his education and enlisted in the Army. Marshall E. Durham fought for his country in Rome, 1945. He retired from Congoleum in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania.

Marshall E. Durham is survived by his wife, Hazel Nanetta Durham and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Martha C. Durham 1912-2001

Martha C. Durham of Dover died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in her home. She was 88. Mrs. Durham was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Sandtown, daughter of the late Robert and Cordellia Mosley Carney.

She was a homemaker. Mrs. Durham was a member of the Forest Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church in Dover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Augustus Durham, on March 13, 1986. She is survived by two sons, Ronald A. Durham of Centreville, Va., and Robert E. Durham of Bridgeton, N.J.; a daughter, Marlyn Sammons of Dover; a brother, Roland Carney of Dover; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Forest Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4950 Pearsons Corner Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Forest Grove SDA Church Cemetery, Dover. Martha Louise Webb Durham 1910-1999

Martha Louise Webb Durham of Annapolis, formerly of Dover, Del., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, in her daughter's home in Annapolis. She was 88. Mrs. Durham was born Nov. 10, 1910, in Preston, Md., the daughter of the late Rev. James L. Webb and Deaconess Cora E. Hubbard Webb.

She attended high school in Denton, later moving to Media, Pa. She attended Cheyney State University in Pennsylvania, majoring in home economics. She furthered her education at Delaware State University, Dover. She worked for Slatons Slaughter Farms School for Girls, teaching home economics, in Pendelhill, Pa., in 1947. She gave much to the Dover community in 1963, substituting for the home economics teacher at William Henry High School. She retired from Goldingers Bros. Inc., Dover, after 28 years of service. She assisted in raising the original producer of ABC's "Golden Girls" sitcom, Mr. Harris. She participated in the African Exchange Student Program, opening her home up to underprivileged children from New York, to experience country living during the summers. She volunteered farmland to be used for the agricultural department students of Delaware State College under its late president, Dr. Luna Mishoe. She enjoyed sewing, hat designing and traveling with her daughter and son-in-law, experiencing life in Texas, Georgia and Maryland. She learned to type for the first time at the age of 83. She also enjoyed being a mentor for youth. She moved to San Antonio, Texas, with her daughter in 1993, moving back to Dover in 1995, and continuing her travels with her family to Statesboro, Ga., and finally settling in Annapolis. She volunteered in the late 1960s for Geriatrics of Delaware. She attended St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, and St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church while living in San Antonio, where she was elected treasurer of the sick and shut-in committee. She was a member of Miller Grove Missionary Baptist, Statesboro. She was a member of Centennial United Methodist Church, Smyrna, Del., where she had been a member for over 30 years. Also, she was a member of Modern Maturity Center, Dover, where she took classes, and a member of the Nanticoke Indians of America.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 happy years, Wilbur C. Durham, in November 1988. She is survived by an only daughter, Lucretia Cora Durham Burns and her husband, the Rev. T.H. Burns, Ph.D, of Annapolis; a younger brother, Lowell Webb and his wife, Rose, of Media; four cousins, the Rev. William Staten of Easton, the Bishop Rev. Marion Ballard of Philadelphia, Susanna Wallace of Royal Oak and Porchia Friend of Laverock, Pa.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Del. 42 and U.S. 13, Cheswold, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial cards and flowers may be sent to Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover.

Marvel Durham, Sr.   1893-1962

1. Obituary:  Marvel Durham, 69, well-known farmer in Greenwich Township, died Saturday afternoon after a short illness.  He resided on the Stathems Neck Road 41 years, and  was the husband of the late Rhoda Durham.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Harry Morgan, Mrs. Oscar Loatman, Jr., Rhoda Durham of Dover, Del., Mrs. Douglas Morris, Mrs. Alex Miller, of Bridgeton; seven sons, Raymond, Marvel, Jr., Allen, Jerry, Ralph Durham, of Bridgeton, Joseph,  of Millville, Edward,  of USAF, Texas; 31 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother Luther Durham, Bridgeton, five sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Clark, Mrs. Addie Mosley, of Bridgeton,  Mrs. Myrtle Bridge, of Camden, Mrs. Natalie Owens of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Jessie Schultz, of Florida.

1.  Obituary:  Marvel Durham Jr., 67, died Saturday at his home.  Born in Hopewell Township, he lived here most of his life.

He had been employed at the Wild Oaks Country Club, the Hygrade Inc., and was also a farmer. Mr. Durham was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.

Mary Coombs Durham ~1927-2000

Mary Coombs Durham, 73, of Bridgeton died late Wednesday evening at her residence. She had been in failing health for the past six months. Born in Fairton, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Sr. and Edna Dean Coombs and the wife of the late Lloyd Durham Sr., who died last December.

Mrs. Durham was a homemaker for most of her life and had worked for the Cumberland County Meals on Wheels for 14 years. She was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indian Tribe of Bridgeton. She was an active member of the Jubilee Living Ministries Church of Quinton.

Survivors include his son, Lloyd Durham Jr. of Fairton; a daughter, Darlene Williams of Hopewell Township five grandchildren; a brother, Alfred C. Coombs Jr. of Fairton; a sister, Katherine Wiley of Fairton; and five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Elizabeth Carney and Louise Coward.

Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Sray Funeral Home, 62 Landis Ave., Bridgeton, with Rev. David R. Scull officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Mary Elizabeth Carter Durham 1908-2000

Mary Elizabeth Durham of Dover died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000 in her home. She was 91. Mrs. Durham was born Dec. 5, 1908, in Cheswold, the son of the late George W. & Sarah Carter.

She had worked as a lineworker for five years at Playtex. She had also worked as a domestic worker for the Thomas Holt family in Dover for 25 years and had first worked for Mr. Holt's mother and then for him. Mrs. Durham was a member of the Immanuel Union United Methodist Church in Cheswold.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Durham, Jr., on Jan. 17, 1988, and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by a sister, Esther Hughes of Dover; a niece, Marguerite Coombs of Bridgeton, N.J.; many additional nieces and nephews; two godchildren, Bonnie West and Connie West of Mt. Holly, N.J.; and the Harry and Frances Morgan family with whom she was very close.

Service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street in Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to service. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Immanuel Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cheswold.

Maybelle B. Mosley Durham ~1904-1989

1. Obituary:   Maybelle B. Durham, 85, formerly of RR 7, died Friday morning in the Cumberland County Medical Center where she had been a patient three years.  She had been seriously ill the past six months. Born in Dover, Del., the daughter of the late David and Lucinda Mosley, she was the wife of the late Raymond Durham. 

She was also predeceased by two husbands, Walton Seeney and Harry Durham.  She had resided at the RR 7 address for 39 years and prior to that lived in Greenwich. Mrs. Durham was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church of Fordville. Surviving are two sons, Melvin "Toby" Durham of Bridgeton and Raymond Loatman of Vineland; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephew She was also predeceased by daughter, Marie Gould.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday from St. John's United Methodist Church of Fordville with the Rev.  Nyada G. Clark officiating.  Burial will be made in Fordville Cemetery.  Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home.

Mazie L. Durham of Middletown died Thursday, June 1, 2006, in the Arbors of New Castle Nursing Home. She was 80. She was born Dec. 1, 1925, in Marydel, Md., daughter of the late Levi and Mary (Tate) Tharp.

Mrs. Durham was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry G. Durham.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, St. George’s.

May 12, 1971 Myrtle Durham's Rites Saturday. Mrs. Myrtle V. (Ridgeway) Durham, 58, of RD 2, River Road, died early Tuesday morning in Newcomb Hospital, Vineland. She had been in failing health six months. Mrs. Durham was born in Dover, Del., but had lived in the South Jersey area 40 years.

She would have been confirmed on May 30 and would have become a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her husband, Hartley; three sisters, Mrs. Howard Pritchett, Dover, Del., Mrs. Mabel Reed and Mrs. Elizabeth Loatman, both of Bridgeton; two brothers, Benjamin Ridgeway, Delaware, and Carlton Ridgeway, Bridgeton and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Burial Office will be read and a Requiem Eucharist celebrated at 10:30 am Saturday in St. Andrew's Church. Burial will be in Gouldtown Memorial Park. Friends and relatives may call Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 at the Lively Funeral Home, 656 East Commerce Street.

Nehemiah Durham 1876-1962

Nehemiah Durham, 91, of Rd. 5, Dover, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of the area, died yesterday, Aug. 31, 1967, in Kent General Hospital where he had been a patient about four weeks.

Survivors include a son, Presley and a sister Mrs. Ella Sammons, both of Dover; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great- great- grandchild. Mr. Durham had been a widower more than 50 years.

Services will be Sunday afternoon at 1 from the Torbert Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call tomorrow night. Interment will be in Emanuel Union Cemetery, Dover.

Mrs. Nellie Coker Durham, 80, of 106 Lamokin St., Chester died Sunday in the Crozier Chester Medical Center, Upland. She was the widow of Oliver Durham.

Mrs. Durham was a Shiloh Baptist Church mother and was a member of its missionary society. She was born in Cheswold, Del. and lived in Chester for 23 years.

Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Lawrence Coker and Elwood M. Coker, both of Chester; a daughter Miss Nellie Coker of Chester; a sister Mrs. Lola Durham of Cheswold, Del; a brother Denny Miller of Dover, Del.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 8th St. and Central Ave., Chester. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 the same evening at the church. No viewing after services. Burial will be Thursday morning in Haven Memorial Park, Chester Township.

Body of City Man Found in Delaware River:

The body of a 65 year old Chester man was found floating in the Delaware River off the foot of Edgmont Ave. shortly after 8 p.m. yesterday.

Identification of the body showed it was that of Oliver Durham, 510 Central Ave. who was reported missing since June 13. Durham's body had his identification badge from Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co.

Franklin Rescue Squad recovered the body after it was spotted in the river by a resident. Chester police assisted in the recovery.

Durham's body was identified at 10:45 p.m. by his son Laurence Coker, 108 E. 13th St. who reported him missing. The body was turned over to the Deputy Coroner Lewis Hunt.

On January 18, 2001, the free sprited Oliver H. Durham, 79, of Pennsauken, NJ. Beloved father of Ethel and her husband Bill Wiley, grandfather of Bill Wiley, Jr., Kevin Wiley, Toni and Dominic Decker, great grandfather of Kayla Wiley and Dominic Decker, Jr., and husband of the late Florence. Uncle of many special nieces and nephews. Oliver had a great love for children, animals and slot machines. At his request, a private funeral was held. P. Russell Durham, 56, of Lumberton, NJ died Saturday November 3, 2001 at Cooper Medical Center in Camden. Mr. Durham was born in Abington, PA. the son of the late Ananias and Jeanette Bridges Durham. He was a retired, self-employed truck driver. Surviving are seven children: Edward Jones of Phila. PA, Michelle Bradshaw of Lawnside, NJ, Jonathan Bradshaw of Belleflower, CA, Jeannette Durham of Lawnside, Sandra Jones of Willingboro, Russell Wayne Durham of Cherry Hill, and his adopted daughter Tina Collins of Woodlynne, NJ. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 5 brothers: James of Berlin, Joe of Berlin, Tom of Willingboro, David of Mt. Holly, and Louis of Pine Hill; and two sisters: Carolyn Giles of Lawnside and Dolores Freeman of Willingboro. Although he had been under a doctor's care for the past two months, his death was unexpected. Born in Hopewell Township, the son of the late Isaiah and Elsie Becket Durham, he was the husband of Olive Otero Durham.

A lifetime resident of the Bridgeton area, he had lived at his present address for 42 years. Retired for several years, he had farmed most of his life and had formerly operated Bayside Farms in Greenwich for a number of years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Presley A. Durham of  Fairfield Township; two granddaughters, Nancy J. Otero and Amanda Lee Otero, both of Laurel Lake; two nieces and two nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Grace Valentino in 1965.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the Padgett Funeral Home, State Highway 77, Carlls Corner, with the Rev Randy L. Cook Jr., pastor of Greenwich Baptist Church, officiating. "Jim" Durham, 73, of Sea Breeze Road, RD 4 died Thursday morning in the emergency room at South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division, where he was rushed after suffering a heart attack at his home. Born in Greenwich, the son of the late Isaiah and Elsie Beckett Durham, he was the husband of Sarah Pierce Durham. 

A resident of Fairfield Township for most of his life, he lived at his present address for 42 years. Prior to retiring six years ago, Mr. Durham has operated Durham Farms in Fairfield Township for 36 years and had farmed all his working life.  He was a member of the Back Neck Gun Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, P. Wayne Durham Sr. and Perry R. Durham, both of RD 4; two daughters, Elsie E. Pritchett of RD 2 and Sarah E. Mosley of Felton, Del.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Obituary: Presley Durham, of RD 3, died Friday, Sept. 13, In Kent General Hospital, after a long illness. He was 83. Mr. Durham was a self-employed mechanic until his retirement in 1975. He enjoyed fishing and farming.

He is survived by wife, Mildred Durham, two sons, Nehemiha and Calvin Durham, both of Dover; a brother, Howard Prichett, of Dover; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday in Immanuel United Methodist Church, Cheswold; Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Arrangements by Tolbert Funeral Chapel, Reed and Bradford streets, Dover.

Presley Wayne Durham Sr. ~1946-2010

Presley Wayne Durham Sr., 63 of Back Neck, Fairton went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning Janua ry 10, 2010 in South Jersey Regional Medical Center, Vineland. He had been in declining health for the past year and a patient at the hospital for a little over a week. Born in the Back Neck section of Fairton, Wayne was the son of the late Presley A."Jim" and Sarah E. (nee Pierce) Durham and the husband of Diane M (nee Mosley) Durham. He had been an area resident all of his life.

Wayne was a farmer, and was partnered with his brother Perry for the last 29 years in t he operation of Durham Farms, which had been in their family for several years. Prior to being self employed he had driven truck for several companies including Burcham Trucking, RT Trucking Co., Venice Maid, and Progresso Foo ds. He was a graduate of the Bridgeton High School Class of 1965, and prior to high school had attended public school in Fairton. Wayne loved to hunt, especially deer hu nting and was a member of the Back Neck Gun Club. He also enjoyed duck and rabbit hunting and passed along his passion for the sport to his three boys and grandson. He loved farming, fishing and just plain old outdoor activities. Wayne loved his f amily and grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving him besides his wife Diane of 44 years are his three sons Presley Wayne Dur ham Jr. of Back Neck and his companion Robin of Pennsville, Jeffrey M. Durham a nd Deborah of Hopewell Twp., and Franklin D. Durham of Back Neck, two sisters Elsie Pritchett and her husband Raymond of Hopewell Twp., and Sarah Mosley and her husband Charles of Felton, Delaware, and his brother Perry Durham Sr. a nd his wife Patricia of Back Neck, four grandchildren Presley Wayne Durham III, of Back Neck, Beatrice Ellen Durham of Woodstown, Michael Scarlato of Hopewell Twp., and Alexa Durham of Hopewell Twp., he is also survived by his aunt Ed ith P. Ridgway and her husband Francis of Fairfield Twp., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rachel Leah Greenage Durham 1899-1961

Rachel Leah Greenage Durham, daughter of the late John and Rachel Greenage was born April 17, 1899, Kenton, Delaware. She departed this life Saturday July 14, 9:00 p.m., Wilmington, Delaware. Age 62 years 2 months 28 days.

In the year of our Lord Nineteen Hundred and Twenty-one she was United in Holy Matrimony to Raymond Durham.

She leaves to mourn their loss husband, 5 brothers, 2 uncles, nieces, nephews and a large number of other relatives and friends.

At an early age she was baptized and became a member of the Forest Grove Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Cheswold, Delaware, and was a faithful member until her health became impaired which compelled her to give up her activities, but nevertheless her faith in God did not weaken, but her determination to trust him increased. Her entire life was spent in and around the community where she was born and during this time she made a large number of friends by whom she shall be missed. Her home meant much to her and she treasured it very dearly.

Altho being confined in the hospital for over a year, our hopes were for her return home, but God saw fit to relieve her of her suffering and when he called her she answered and now has gone to rest until Jesus comes to claim his own.

Raymond A. Durham ~1915-1983
 
1.  Obituary:  Raymond A. Durham, 68, of RD 3, Davis Mill Road, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon.  He was stricken at home and rushed to Bridgeton Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The son of the late Marvel and Rhoda Seeney Durham, he was born in Fairfield Township and had lived at his present address the past 61 years. Mr. Durham had been a farmer all his life.

He is survived by six. brothers, Marvel, Jr., and Allen, Sr., and Ralph Durham, all of RD 3; Jerry of RD; Edward of  Tacoma, Wash.; and Joseph Durham of Portland, Tenn.; and four sisters, Frances Wilson, Mrs. Oscar (Helen) Loatman, Jr. and Rhoda Durham, all of Dover, Del., and Mrs. Alex (Salley) Miller of RD 2.

The Rev Donald C. Bozarth, pastor of the First Seventh Day Adventist Church, will conduct the services on Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 40 East Ave. Interment will be made in Fernwood Memorial Park.  Friends may call Saturday evening after 7 at the funeral home.

Reynolds Durham, 85, of Millville passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at the Millville Center after a brief illness. Born in Dover, Del., he has been a longtime resident of Millville. Reynolds had been a self-employed cabinetmaker, who created custom kitchens, and at one time worked for Shapiro Clothing Co. in Vineland, where he had met his wife.

He was predeceased by his wife, Herberta "Bert" Durham; and daughter, Rosemarie Flocco. Reynolds is survived by two grandchildren, Rosemarie Basile and husband Vincent, and Louis Flocco; four great-great-grandchildren Christina, Vincent, Blaise Basile, and Vanessa Flocco; a nephew, Ronald Durham Sr. and his wife Jancy; grandnieces and grandnephews, Ronald and Margaret Durham Jr., and Jason and Lenore Durham; and great-grandnieces Dana and Emma Durham.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barr Funeral Home, 2104 E. Main St., Millville, where there will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. The burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park. Rhoda Maude Durham, of Dover, passed away Monday Nov. 3, 2008, in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Nov. 28, 1934, in Bridgeton, N.J., daughter of the late Marvel Durham and Rhoda Seeney, Durham.

Ms. Durham was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother to her sons as well as watching and taking care of the rest of the family's children. She was a member of the Forrest Grove Seventh Day Adventist church. Ms. Durham loved spending time at Spence's Bazaar setting up her table, talking with everybody that came by. She loved country music, especially George Jones, and just loved Elvis. Ms. Durham was known for collecting bears, and bells. She loved to shop with her niece and her favorite recipe was takeout, or dine out.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving companion, Wilbur Durham Jr.; two baby boys; four sisters, Francis L. Morgan-Wilson, Lydia Morris, Sally Miller, and Helen Loatman; six brothers, Allen, Raymond, Marvel, Jerry, Ralph and Clarence "Joe" Durham. Also preceding her in death are a loving granddaughter, Christy Lynn Durham; grandson baby boy Christopher Durham; and a great-grandson James Hendrix Durham. Ms. Durham is survived by her children, William K. Durham and his wife Roberta of Marydel, Walter Allen Durham of Camden, Robert AKA Jerry Durham and his wife Tracy of Dover, Arnold Wilbur and his wife Shuana of Dover; her brother, Edward Durham and his wife Darlene of Washington; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two special friends, Josephine Corona of New Castle and Annette Schandling of Camden, and a host of nieces and nephews. Richard ‘Hun' Durham 1940-2001

Richard "Hun" Durham of Dover died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, in his home. He was 61. Mr. Durham was born April 5, 1940, in Dover, son of Gladys Norris and the late Herman Durham. He was baptized at Union Baptist Church by the late Rev. J.H. Williams.

He received his education at Booker T. Washington Elementary School and William Henry High School in Dover. He served in the U.S. Air Force at Lockborne Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio, from 1963-67. In 1963, he married the former Barbara Sullivan, and from this union five children were born. He was employed by Playtex in August 1967, and completed 34 years of service as of January 2001. His leisure time was spent enjoying baseball, football and fishing.

In addition to his biological father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Glendon Durham; and his grandson, Richard III. In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sons, Richard L., Travis L., Craig E. and Corey K.; a daughter, Dennell Wright; his stepfather, Thomas Morris; three sisters, Dolores Mays, Edna Sanders and Loretta Morris; a brother, Joseph Morris; two brothers-in-law, Garrett M. Mays and Billy J. Saunders; one sister-in-law, Essie Durham; two daughters-in-law, Paulette and Cynthia; a special friend, Doris Henry; 12 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be noon Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church on Del. 8 in Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Dover. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.

In loving memory of Robert E. Durham who departed this life December 26, 1980. He was one of eight children born to Rosie and Walter E. Durham April 4, 1904 in Moylon, Pennsylvania.

He attended the elementary and high school of Wallingford, Pennsylvania. He was employed by Pennsylvania Railroad and after retiring he was employed by Dr. Kemptor of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Robert became a Christian, was connected with Campbell A.M.E. Church of Media, Pennsylvania, and later he moved to Philadelphia. He filled all obligations unfalteringly and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

He leaves to mourn: his wife, Lishia; two daughters: Barbara and Marcella; three brothers: Wilbur, Howell and Marshall; and six grandchildren, five sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Interment -- Northwood Cemetery, 15th Street and Cheltenham Avenue.

Roy Glendon Durham ~1942-2004

Roy Glendon Durham, 62, of Vineland died on Monday March 15, 2004 at his home. Born in Greenwhich, Mr. Durham was a longtime resident of Vineland.

He graduated from Bridgeton High School, and received a technical degree as a machinist from the Salem School of Technology. He was employed with the Owens-Illinois Kimble Glass Co. for 20+ yrs. and retired in 1984. Roy was the son of the late Frank and Grace Mae Coward Durham. He was also pre deceased by his brother Chuck Durham. Although Roy had lived with Multiple Sclerosis for 30 yrs., his outlook on life was positive. Roy was known to always have a smile on his face, and Roy always found to be a source of encouragement to others. Roy was an inspiration to his children and grandchildren. Roy enjoyed fishing, gardening, baseball, basketball, football and most of all motorsports! For years Roy has not been able to walk due to his illness. Today, though a sorrowful day, it is also a happy day because Roy is walking with Jesus. We love you Roy, always.

Survivors include his lifelong companion of 13 yrs., Theresa Ransom, his brothers John Durham and Frank Durham. His children, Patricia Durham-Penske and Roy Durham, Jr. will miss him dearly. His stepchildren, Elizabeth Haeser, Kathie Reynolds, Stephen Ransom and Chris Ransom, will always have a place in their hearts for Roy. His grandchildren, Sophia and Nicholas Penske, Taylor and Kyle Durham, Vanessa Haeser, Tyler Ransom, Ashley Laginestra and Arianna Reynolds, loved him and will miss him.

Ruth Gould Durham, 95, passed away at the home of her daughter, Cordelia Ashton, in Bridgeton on Friday, Dec. 21. Born in Fairfield. she was the daughter of the late Warren & Ruth (nee Pierce) Gould, and the wife of William Durham.

She was a member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church in Bridgeton and was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indian Tribe.

She is survived by her three Sons: Herbert and Charles Durham of Bridgeton and William Durham of Vineland: six daughters besides Cordelia: Henrietta Durham, Mary Jane Pierce and Ruth Ann Pierce, of Bridgeton; Rebecca Pierce of Deerfield Township; Dorothy Pierce and Ella May Durham, both of Gouldtown, and 27 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Elwood Durham and Hughee Durham; two brothers, Romaine and Jerry Gould; and two sisters Matilda Lloyd and Rachel Gould.

Services were Dec. 28 at John Wesley United Methodist Church with interment at the family plot in Fordville Memorial Park. Fairfield Township. Arrangements were under the direction of the , 62 Landis Ave., Carlls Corner.

Sara B. Morris Durham of R.D. 5, Dover, died of a heart attack, Monday, July 14, 1986, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 81.

She was a homemaker and a member of Forest Grove Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mrs. Durham would have celebrated her 58th wedding anniversary Sept. 27.

She is survived by her husband, Samuel Horace Durham Sr.; three sons, Dr. Joseph Morris of Washington, D.C., Purcell Durham of Dover and Samuel H. Durham Jr. of Bridgeton, N.J.; three daughters, Marian Carney of Dover, lona Gould of Bridgeton, N.J., and Glendora Ridgway of Kenton; a granddaughter she raised, Lucinda Lightcap of Dover; four brothers, William Morris and Nolan Morris, both of Dover, Robert Morris of Elmer, N.J., and Douglas Morris of Bridgeton, N.J.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Forest Grove Seventh Day Adventist Church, Dover, where friends may call from 7 to 9 Thursday. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Sarah E. Durham, 79 of Fairfield Township, died Sunday morning, June 22, 2003 in South Jersey Health Care-Bridgeton Division. She had been in failing health for the past 2 years. Mrs. Durham was born in Fairfield Township and was the daughter of the late Orwig Max Pierce and Eliza Dean Pierce.

The wife of the late Presley A. Durham, she had been a lifetime resident of Fairfield Township. She had helped in the operation of the family farm, "Durham Farms" in Fairfield Township and formerly been employed with the Val Mode Co. in Bridgeton for 10 years.

Survivors include: two sons, Presley Wayne Durham and his wife Diana, Fairfield Township and Perry R. Durham and his wife Patricia, Fairfield Township; two daughters, Elsie E. Pritchett and her husband Raymond, Hopewell Township and Sarah E. Mosley and her husband Charles, Felton, Del.; one brother, Orwig Max Pierce, Jr., Fairfield Township; one sister, Edith P. Ridgway, Fairfield Township, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Pierce.

Mrs. Sarah E. Durham, 36, of 805 Forrest St., Moylan, died Wednesday night at her home after several months' illness. Born in Media, Mrs. Durham had always lived in the county. She had worked for a number of families in the Media area and was known as a fine and capable woman. She was a member of Honeycomb Church, Lima.

Sarah Elizabeth Durham, 89 of Greenwich Twp., NJ went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 21, 2009 in the South Jersey Healthcare Hospice Inpatient Unit, Bridgeton NJ. Born in Bridgeton she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Alice (nee Pierce) Loatman, and the wife of the late Marvel Durham Jr..

Sarah was formerly employed with Marks Manufacturing in Bridgeton where she was a seamstress. She had enjoyed a long retirement. She loved cooking, reading, sewing , and just taking care of her family. Sarah attended Willow Grove United Methodist Church in Pittsgrove Twp. and will be sadly missed by her friends in Christ.

She is survived by her son Kevin Marvel Durham and his wife Cheryl Rainear-Durham of Newfield NJ, and her granddog Maxx, two brothers Oscar "Steve" Loatman Jr. of Dover, DE, and Kenneth L. "Buck" Loatman Sr. and his wife Emily of Greenwich Twp., one sister Lena Durham of Fresno, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased besides her parents and husband by her daughter Pamela Durham Pierce, two sisters Alice "Peetie" Loatman, and Marion Davis, and two brothers Russell Loatman, and Henry Loatman Sr..

1. 15 Apr 2000 -- Sarah Elizabeth Mosley Durham of Dover died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in Bayhealth Medical Center in Milford. She was 88. She was a dedicated member of Whatcoat United Methodist Church, where she served as a member of the Altar Guild, Active Adults and the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman; a daughter, Joyce Bryant; four brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by a son, Charles; a devoted daughter-in-law, Dorothy, who faithfully cared for her during her illness; a sister, Grace R. Kemp; a niece who she reared as a daughter, Clara Jean Hill; three granddaughters, Charyn E. Scrivens, Elise (Lynn) Dyer and Judith Johnson; two grandsons, Keith Bryant and Gregory Waters; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sisters; brothers-in-law; a devoted caregiver and companion, Florine Crawford; and many other relatives and friends.

Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Salisbury Road in Dover. Friends may call 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St. in Dover. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery in Dover.

Smith Durham, 84, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte. He was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Dover, Del. Mr. Durham served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired as a dispatcher for National Freight Co. of Vineland, N.J. He moved to Port Charlotte in 1983, from Vineland. Mr. Durham was a member of Port Charlotte United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 110 of Port Charlotte.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Fannie Durham of Port Charlotte; a brother, Reynolds Durham of Millville, N.J.; a half-sister, Helen Morozzi of Vineland; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at the Port Charlotte Chapel of Roberson Funeral Home. The Rev. Suzie Grote, pastor, will officiate. Interment with military honors by the U.S. Navy will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte. Suddenly on September 4, 2000, Vance Durham, age 23, of Blackwood, NJ. Son of Patricia (nee Ptasinski) of Camden and Shepard of Daytona Beach, FL, brother of Deboreah of Daytona Beach. Grandson of Walter Ptasinski of Blackwood. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles. He was a graduate of Highland Regional H.S. 1995 and worked for the Aquarium Center of Blackwood. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10am at the Church of St. Jude, Black Horse Pk, Blackwood, NJ. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. W. Wilson Durham ~1914-1979

1.  Obituary: W. Wilson Durham, 65, of 1033 Buckshutem Road, died suddenly Sunday.  He was the son of the late Henry and Rebecca Mosey Durham and the husband of Eleanora Durham. He was born and raised in Fairfield Township and was the proprietor of Durham’s Auto Service, having been in business over 40 years.

He was a member of National Business League and served on the board of committee as first and second vice president. At the time of his death, he held the office of president of the South Jersey Chapter of NBL. Among his other community service activities he was charter member of the Fairfield Township Chamber of Commerce and served as first vice president. He also served as an adviser to the local Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife; six sons, Wilson Jr., Robert, Frank, Roger, Glendon and Carlton; five daughters, Barbara Miller, Priscilla Pierce, Gwendolyn Durham, Gail Hunter and Rebecca Dunn; four brothers, Raymond, William, Hughes and Irving Durham; two sisters, Priscilla Pritchett and Sarah Coker;  32 grandchildren;  16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. from the Wesley Funeral Home, 17  S. Burlington Road.  The Rev. William Johnson will officiate.  Interment will be made in Fordville Cemetery.   Friends may call Thursday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Walter E. Durham, 86, of 2310 Beechwood St., Philadelphia, formerly of Media, died Sunday in Mercy Douglas Hospital.

He was a contractor until his retirement. He lived in Media 52 years. He was a member of Campbell A. M. E. church, Media.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Blair and Mrs. Helen Spith [sic] both of Philadelphia; five sons, Walter and Howell both of Media; Robert and Marshall both of Philadelphia, and Wilbur of Dover, Del.; one sister, Mrs. Lulu Moseley [sic] of New Jersey; 20 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.

The services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in Campbell A. M. E. Church, 3rd and Olive Sts., Media. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the church.

Warren was a strong Christian and very devoted to his loving family, his faithful church and his bountiful gardens. Warren was born in 1915 to Maymie and Thomas Durham in Dover, DE and later moved to The Garden State where he worked for many years as a salesman for numerous tractor companies. He enjoyed boating along Rancocas Creek and camping in the Poconos and at the shore. In 1970 Warren and Edith moved to Deptford and became devout members of the Woodbury Seventh-Day Adventist Churchwhere Warren soon became an elder and later treasurer. After retiring in his 80's, Warren enjoyed the complexities of computers and traveling to Florida with his family. Warren was a calm and easygoing gentleman who had a strong belief in what is right and he lived his life by the Bible and will be missed by his family, his church, and his friends.

Beloved husband of 65 years to the late Edith I. Wilbur Durham Jr., 75, of RD 2, Dover Del. died Sunday in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, Del.  A veteran of World War II, Mr. Durham retired in 1977 from the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill.

Surviving are his companion, Rhoda N. Durham, formerly of Bridgeton; four sons, William Durham of Marydel, Del., Walter Durham, Robert N. Durham and Arnold Durham, all of Dover Del.; a sister, Berdella Durham of New Jersey; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from Immanuel Union United Methodist Church, Cheswold, Del. Interment will be made in Immanuel Church Cemetery, Cheswold, Del. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Tolbert Funeral Home, Dover, Del.

William Durham ~1910-1982

1. Obituary:   William Durham, 72, of RD 7, Woodruff Road died Thursday at Bridgeton Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.  He had been in failing health for 12 years and bedfast for the past three years.  Born in Fairton, he was the son of the late Henry and Rebecca Mosley Durham and the husband of Ruth Gould Durham.  He had lived at his present address for 25 years and had been lifetime resident of Fairfield Township. Prior to his retirement 13 years ago he had been employed as a custodial with the Bridgeton school system for 2, years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons, Elwood, Herbert and Hughee, all of Bridgeton, William of Vineland and Charles Durham, at home; six daughters, Dorothy Pierce of RD 1, Millville, Ella Mae Durham of RD 7, Mary Jane Pierce and Henrietta Ames, both of Bridgeton, C. June Durham of RD 1, Millville and Ruth Ann Pierce of RD 7; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Pierce of RD 1, Millville; two brothers, Hughee of Bridgeton and Irving Durham of Fairton; two sisters, Polly Croker of Palmyra and Rebecca Pritchett of Bridgeton; 28 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. Gerritt W. Kenyon, pastor of the Assembly of God Church of Millville, on Monday at 2 p.m. from the Padgett Funeral Home, 100 N. Main St., Cedarville.  Interment will be made in Fordville Memorial Park, Fordville.  Friends may call Sunday evening after 7 at the funeral home.

William "Jake" Durham Sr., 83 years, of Clayton, NJ, died on Tues. Jan. 23, 2007 in the Kennedy Mem. Hospital, Washington Township, N.J., after a long battle with cancer. Born and raised in the Woodstown area, he was a resident of Clayton for the past 63 years. He was a graduate of Woodstown High School, Class of 1943.

Jake enjoyed gardening, hunting and going to his cabin in Pa., and traveling to Florida and California. He was on the Board of Directors for the Wilson Lake Memorial Park, a trustee for Cedar Green Cemetery Association of Clayton, member of the Clayton Lions Club, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Clayton. He was a retired fruit farmer.

Jake is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy L. Nee McInnes, and his devoted sons, William Jr., and his wife Helen of Vineland, and Douglas and his wife Audrey of Clayton. Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Brother of Melvin Durham, and Lucy Ranagan, both of Calif. Predeceased by his brother Wesley, and his sister Gladys Berkenbine.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Sat. Jan. 27th, at 11 a.m., at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, Broad & Maple Sts., Clayton, N.J. Wilson E. Durham departed this life, Monday, June 30, in the South Jersey Health Care Bridgeton Division. Mr. Durham was born in Bridgeton, where he resided all his life, on August 6, 1929.

He was the son of the late Wilson Woodrow & Eleanor Pierce Durham and widower of Pauline Sanderlin Durham. He was employed by Dave Kane Scrape Iron formerly of Bridgeton, NJ.

He leaves to cherish his memory 3 sons, Wilson Jr. & Kevin, both of Bridgeton and Tubby Durham of Atlantic City; 3 daughters, Arlene Durham-Miller & Delores Durham, both of Bridgeton and Crystal Durham of Salem; step children, Bernetta Ridgeway Pierce & Charles Ridgeway; 4 brothers, Robert of Fairton, Frank of Bridgeton, Robert & Carlton Durham of Vineland; 4 sisters, his twin Barbara Miller, Gwendolyn Durham & Rebecca Dunn of Bridgeton and Gail Hunter of Clayton; 2 sons-in-law, Johnny Young & James Pierce; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
