George
Neal, 68, of Salem died Wednesday at home. Born in Rome, Ga., son of the late
Jake and Nellie Johnson Neal, he had lived in the Salem County area for more than
45 years.
Mr.
Neal was a forklift operator for the Gaynor Glass Works in Salem until his retirement.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Cuff-Barksdale American
Legion Post No. 444, Salem.
Surviving
are his long-time companion, Mary Gould; three sons, Richard Gould
of Wilmington, Del., and Steve and William "Button" Neal both of Salem;
three brothers, Claude of Rome, Ga., Roy of Salem and William of Woodstown; a
sister, Sarah Dorsey; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was
predeceased by two sons, George and Roland Gould, three sisters and two
brothers.
Services
are 11 a.m. Monday in St. John's Pentecostal Church, New Market Street, Salem,
where friends may call after 9 a.m. Burial will be in the Salem County Veterans
Cemetery, Pilesgrove Township. Arrangements are by Edwards and Son Funeral Home
Inc., Bridgeton and Salem.

program obituary: PERSHIAL L. NESBITT was born August 28, 1903, daughter
of the late Harry and Addie Norwood, in Lewes, Delaware. She departed this life,
Wednesday morning, October 15, l980, in Dover Hospital, Dover, Delaware.
Pershial
attended school in Lewes, Delaware and at an early age joined Israel United Methodist
Church, where she worshipped until moving to Wilmington, Delaware.
Pershial
was married to the late James Nesbitt, upon moving to Wilmington, and became a
member of Ezion-Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. She served as a Communion
Steward, Sang on the Senior Choir, was pianist for the Church School, and a member
of the United Methodist Women. She was also one of our faithful volunteer workers,
such as folding the Bulletins and the Newsletters and helping to get them in the
mail.
Pershial
had been in failing health since March of 1980, and after a period of illness,
she was called to her eternal rest.
We
will always remember her as a loving mother, sister and Aunt. The family will
never forget her, as she was indeed dear to all of us, but we know our loss is
Heaven’s gain.
She
is survived by a daughter, Barbara Morris, a sister, Catherine Robbins, a brother,
Harry H. Norwood, a son in-law, Nolan Morris, Sr. 2 grandchildren, Nolan Jr. and
Hershial Morris, 2 god-children, Herman and Kimberley Robbins, nieces and nephews,
and a host of relatives and friends.

Birdella "Birdie" Ridgeway Newhard of Dover died Wednesday, July
21, 2004, in Silver Lake Nursing Home. She was 67. Mrs. Newhard was born June
9, 1937, in Cheswold, daughter of the late James Edward Davis and Margaret Ridgeway.
She was raised by Lola and Forrest Seeney.
She worked as a restaurant
cook. She enjoyed baking cakes, cooking, crafts and dancing. Mrs. Newhard was
a member of the Immanuel Union United Methodist Church in Cheswold.
She
was preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin Ridgeway Jr. Mrs. Newhard
is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Chris and Peggy Ridgeway,
Robert and Judie Ridgeway, and Benjamin Ridgeway III, all of Dover; three daughters
and three sons-in-law, Deborah D. Ridgeway and Jackie Johnson, Margaret A. and
Norman Carney, all of Cheswold, and Anita and Luther Sammons of Dover; 12 grandchildren,
Christopher A. Ridgeway, Robert B. Ridgeway, Christopher J. Ridgeway, Shawn Ridgeway,
Gordon Ridgeway, Jennifer Ridgeway, Aaron Sammons, Luther B. Sammons, Kyle Sammons,
David Carney, Megan Johnson and Billy Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters,
Sarah Seeney of Milford, Janice Seeney of Cheswold, Karen Seeney of New Jersey
and Nancy Bryant of California; four brothers, Anthony Seeney and Walter Seeney,
both of Dover, Richard Seeney of Cheswold and Gerald Seeney of Texas; a host of
nieces and nephews; a close friend, Teresa Ridgeway of Magnolia; and a goddaughter,
Teri Ridgeway.
Services were in Immanuel Union United Methodist Church,
Main Street, Cheswold. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Torbert

Letitia Carter Newlin 1901-1991

Agnes
Letitia Carter Newlin, daughter of the late Hopewell U. Carter and Sarah C.
Ridgeway, was born May 21, 1901 in Leipsic, Delaware. She was educated in a small
school in Cheswold, Delaware.
Seeking
employment at the age of seventeen, Agnes traveled to Philadelphia where many
of her relatives had settled before her first years of employment involved factory
Work and R.C.A. Victor in Camden, New Jersey.
After
her marriage to the late Aubrey A. Newlin, Sr. of Philadelphia and raising her
family with all the love parents could give, and with her sons enlistment in the
Army, she decided to become involved with the World War II effort, which she did
with zest by her employment with the Federal Government Branches of the U.S. Marine
Corps and Quartermaster Depot until her retirement after twenty-two years of devoted
service.
After
becoming widowed at the age of 44, her life was like the Rock of Ages and she
weathered many a storm. She was truly and completely devoted to her family. Her
home was a comfort to quite a few in need during these trying times. There was
never a hungry soul or heavy heart that “Aggie or Tish” didn’t console. Agnes
participated in neighborhood events as long as her health permitted, where she
was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed, even though she never complained
for herself. Agnes passed away Monday, quickly and quietly, surrounded by her
family, whom she never wanted to leave her. She got her wish.
She
leaves to cherish precious memories: her devoted daughters, Mrs. Clara Valdera,
Mrs. Katherine Thomas, and Miss Constance Newlin, all of Philadelphia; three sons-in-law,
Mr. Ralph C. Thomas, Mr. Clyde E. Jacobs, and Mr. Feliciano F. Valdera; one daughter-in-law,
Mrs. Syrethea Carter of Gouldtown, New Jersey; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren;
two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Cuff of Bridgeton, New Jersey and Mrs. Laura Pierce
of Monroeville, New Jersey; one brother-in-law, Mr. John Pierce of Monroeville,
New Jersey; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

AUBREY
RAYMOND NEWLIN JR., ESQ., son of the late Aubrey Raymond Newlin Sr. and Agnes
Carter Newlin, was born November 22, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was
educated in the Philadelphia Public Schools.
Fulfilling
a desire to serve his country during World War II he enlisted in the United States
Army Air Corps in pursuit of a long time goal to become a pilot, a goal he was
unable to attain due to the sudden death of his father which made it necessary
for him to return home to serve as the head of the household.
After
deciding on a career in law, Aubrey worked hard at several jobs to finance his
education, which he accomplished June 18, 1953, receiving the degree of Juris
Doctor from Temple University School of Law. An outstanding, brilliant and dedicated
attorney, he practiced law for over 30 years until failing health necessitated
the need for semi-retirement.
A
man with an unquenchable thirst and desire for knowledge, Aubrey enjoyed many
hobbies including fishing, hunting, boating and flying, areas in which he excelled
and found great peace and contentment. He was a member of many professional organizations,
including: Matt Talbott Retreat - Group No. 1 of Loyola, Westwood, N.J.; Capt.
Robert Tresville Post, VFW No. 6700, Phila. Bar Assn., Barristers’ Club of Phila.,
National Bar Association, Christian Lodge No. 12, F. & A.M., Endeavor Investment
Club, Greater Phila. Economic Development Corp., and Job Loan and Urban Venture
Corporation.
Despite
an extremely busy and hectic life, Aubrey remained a loving and devoted son, residing
with his mother for most of his life. In addition, he was a devoted and concerned
brother who could always be counted on for advice, support and encouragement to
his brother and sisters, other family members, friends and neighbors. A “man’s-man,”
Aubrey ran “deep.” He had a personality characterized by a quick wit and a determination
to keep his problems and concerns private to prevent worry by his loved ones,
the ones he himself was always so concerned about.
He
leaves to mourn their loss, his devoted mother, Agnes; three sisters, Clara Valdera,
Katherine Thomas and Constance Newlin; one sister-in-love, Syrethia Carter; three
brothers-in-love, Ralph C. Thomas, Clyde E. Jacobs and Feliciano F. Valdera; eight
nieces and nephews, eleven great nieces and nephews, many cousins, friends, business
associate and neighbors.

(Unnamed newspaper, Thursday, July 25, 1985) Aubrey R. Newlin Jr., a Center
City lawyer known for his expertise in handling estates, died last Thursday. He
was 59 and lived in South Philadelphia.
A
Temple University law school graduate, Newlin spent his more than 25 years in
law specializing in administering estates of the deceased. “Lawyers always referred
that kind of business to him,” said his associate, Leonidas A. Allen. “He was
among the good ones.” He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps
in the Aleutian Islands. He became a licensed pilot after the war. Newlin was
active in several civic and professional groups and was a charter member of the
Capt. Robert Tresville Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6700. He also
served in the Barristers Club, the Greater Philadelphia Economic Development Corp.
and Christian Lodge No. 12 of the Masons.
He
is survived by his mother, Agnes Carter Newlin, and three sisters, Clara Valdera,
Katherine Thomas and Constance Newlin.
Services
will be at noon Saturday at the First African Baptist Church, 16th and Christian
streets. Burial will be at White Chapel Memorial Park, Feasterville, Bucks County.

Norwood of Lewes died suddenly Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Beebe Medical Center,
Lewes. He was 66. Mr. Norwood was born March 25, 1938, son of the late David M.
and Delema Morris Norwood. He was a hardworking self-employed farmer and landscaper. Mr. Norwood
spent some of his happiest moments with his family and his Chihuahuas, Rusty,
Sissy, Girlie, Yap Yap and Penny.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years,
Sylvia Ingram Norwood; two sons, Arthur Jerome Norwood of Milton and Herman "BJ"
Norwood of Vineland, N.J.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Valerie and Lawrence

Daryll N. Norwood of Millsboro died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002,
in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 51. Mr. Norwood was born in Lewes, son
of Janice Norwood Davis who survives of Millsboro and the late Linford E. Norwood.
He
was a welder with the pipe fitters local 782 in Seaford for the past 32 years.
Mr. Norwood was a member of the Nanticoke Indian Association, was affiliated with
the Indian Mission United Methodist Church, both in Millsboro and was a former
member of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Co. in Oak Orchard.
In
addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Danielle R. Norwood; four
brothers, Walter L. Norwood, Anthony S. Norwood, Joshua Norwood and Trantino,
all of Millsboro; four sisters, Natosha Carmine of Brookside, DE, Evelyn Harmon,
Krucita Hopkins and Sonja Davis all of Millsboro; maternal grandmother, Janie

J. Norwood of Lewes died Monday, April 8, 2002, in the Beebe Medical Center,
Lewes. She was 88.Mrs. Norwood was born near Millsboro, daughter of the late William
W. and Sarah J. Street Jackson.
She was a member of the Israel United
Methodist Church, Lewes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Harry H. Norwood in January, 2000. She is survived by
a son, Troy Wright of Millsboro; a brother, Layman L. Jackson of Millsboro; a

Eva Amelia Norwood of Lewes died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, in her home, after
a long illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was 91. Mrs. Norwood was
born Dec. 5, 1913, in Lewes, daughter of the late James E. and Emma Dell Morris.
She
was a homemaker and a domestic worker serving many prominent families in the Lewes
and Rehoboth Beach area. Mrs. Norwood was the oldest surviving member of the Israel
U.M. Church in Lewes, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 10638 in Millsboro and a member of the Cape Henlopen Senior Center in
Rehoboth Beach.
In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Elwood
"Duck" Norwood. She is survived by a son, Thomas E. Norwood of Lewes;
four daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Y. Norwood and Marian E. Norwood, both
of Dover, Trudy N. Jackson of Millsboro and Betty J. and William Streett of Milton;
10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends.

Frances Consetta
Harmon Norwood of Millsboro died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in Sentara
Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, Va., after a lengthy illness. She was 78. Frances
was born May 25, 1929, to the late William Edward and L. Jeanette (Johnson)
Harmon, in Millsboro.
She graduated from
Delaware State College High School for Colored Students, now Delaware
State University, and later attended and graduated from Apex Beauty School,
Philadelphia, and received her diploma in cosmetology. Frances then returned
to Millsboro and opened her own beauty shop and also was a dressmaker.
She married the love of her life, George W., and from this union three
children were born. Frances for many years worked at the Sports Craft,
a former clothing firm in Lewes. She was a member of Israel United Methodist
Church near Lewes.
Frances was preceded
in death by her oldest daughter Jauna T. Norwood. She is survived by her
husband of 49 years, George W. Norwood. Oct. 5 would have been their 50th
wedding anniversary. She is also survived by one son, Gemez W. and his
wife, Felonise Norwood of Millsboro; one daughter, Tyniece J. Norwood
of Chesapeake, Va.; one grandson, Eric Lee Martin Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.;
and two sisters, Phyllis L. Morris and Janet C. Harmon, both of Millsboro.
Services will be noon
Friday at Israel United Methodist Church, Plantation Road, Lewes, where
friends may call two hours prior. A viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday
at Harmony United Methodist Church, John J. Williams Highway, Millsboro.

Herman Norwood ~1911-2000
Harry Herman Norwood of Lewes died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, in Beebe Medical
Center. He was 89. Mr. Norwood was born in Lewes, the son of the late Harry C.
and Addie Wright Norwood. He retired in 1975, as a self-employed farmer. Mr. Norwood
had served on the Sussex County Republican Committee for over 40 years, had been
a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge #4 and the G. Oscar Carrington Consistory
#93, both in Milton. In addition, he was a member of the Israel United Methodist
Church, Lewes, where he served as trustee.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Delilah Jackson Norwood; an adopted son,
Dallas Troy Wright and his wife, Kandi, of Lewes; a grandson, Austin Wright; and
several nephews and nieces and many other relatives and friends.
Service
will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Israel United Methodist Church, RD 275, near Five
Points, Lewes, where friends may call two hours prior to service. The Rev. Timothy
Duffield Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Mildred
L. Norwood of Wilmington died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, in Christiana Care Center,
Newark. She was 60. Ms. Norwood was born April 25, 1944, daughter of the late
David and Delema Norwood. She was born and raised in the Harbeson area.
She
attended Rabbits Ferry School until she became ill at the age of 16. Ms. Norwood
was a loving and caring daughter and sister, who enjoyed helping her family and
taking her brother, Greg, down to the store to buy candy. She was a hard worker,
who didn't mind working in the fields, cooking or cleaning and loved to tell her
mother to "go ahead and I'll take care of the house and Greg."
In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Norwood.
She is survived by five brothers, Elmer Norwood of Lewes, Dave Norwood and Evans
Norwood, both of Harbeson, Mervin Norwood of Millsboro and Gregory Norwood of
Milton; four sisters, Yvonne Johnson, Gloria Taylor and Grace Norwood, all of

Gunvald
Garrett Olsen of Dover, and formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday, August
20, 1998, in his home. He was 87. Mr.
Olsen was born in 1910, in Farsund, Norway, the son of the late Gunnar and Gracyne
T. Olsen. He had served in the Merchant Marines. He was a carpenter. He relocated
from Brooklyn to Dover in 1974. Mr. Olsen was a member of the New York District
Carpenter's Union, Local 902, for 50 years, a member of the Sons of Norway, and
a member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.
He
is survived by his wife of 63 years, Minnie Olsen of Dover; a daughter, Barbara
Gracyne Holden and her husband David, both of Dover; three granddaughters, Barbara
Stokes and her husband David, both of Shelby, N.C., Deborah Nolette of Dover,
and Denise Coker and her husband Charles Jr., both of Dover; 10 great-grandchildren,
Michael Handges, Christi Coker, Tiffany Coker, Charles Coker III, John Gilbert
Jr., David Nolette, and Ryan Garrett Seeney, all of Dover, and Jennifer Stokes,
Andrew Stokes, and Kimberly Stokes, all of Shelby, N.C.; two nieces, Gracyne Zendler
and her husband Ronald, both of Dover, and Anita Frua; a nephew, Denis Sullivan
of New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Nancy Sullivan of Staten Island, N.Y.; many friends
and his devoted pet cat, Friskie.

Scura Olsen 1912-1999
Minnie Scura Olsen of Dover died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, surrounded by
family and a special granddaughter who cared for her. She was 87. Mrs. Olsen was
born on May 30, 1912, in New York City, the daughter of the late Mary Ann Tocci
and Ettore Scura. She worked as a seamstress, owning and operating Barbara's Sportswear
in Brooklyn, N.Y., for many years, retiring in 1973 and moving to Dover.
She
was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved people
and was a friend to all. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and gardening. Mrs.
Olsen was a member of the Modern maturity Center, a member of AARP Local Chapter
#721 and AARP National Organization.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Gunvald Olsen. She is survived
by a daughter, Barbara Gracyne Holden, and her husband, David, of Dover; three
granddaughters, Barbara Stokes, and her husband, David, of Shelby, N.C., Deborah
Nolette of Dover, and Denise Coker, who cared for her, and her husband, Charles
Jr., of Dover; 10 great-grandchildren, Michael Handges of Shelby, N.C. Christi
Coker, Tiffany Coker, Charles Coker III, John Gilbert Jr., David Nolette and Ryan
Seeney, all of Dover, and Jennifer Stokes, Andrew Stokes and Kimberly Stokes,

Ada Orme, age 82 of Howardsville died Tuesday Morning Sept. 24, 2002 in a
Charlottesville Hospital. Born Feb. 25, 1920 in Cumberland Co., N.J..
She
was a daughter of the late Harvey and Lola Durham. She was preceded in death by
her husband George Orme on March 6, 2001. She was a homemaker, Retired Nurses
Aid and a member of Word of Faith Church in Charlottesville. She is survived by
a daughter Carol A. Griffith of Mt. Laurel, N.J.. Five sons George A. Orme, William
'Bill' Orme and Wayne Orme all of Howardsville, Gene C. Orme of Amherst and Gary
Orme of Troy. 19 Grandchildren and 18 Great grandchildren.
A
funeral service will be held Friday Sept. 27, 2002 at 11:00AM at Wells/Sheffield
Funeral Chapel in Lovingston with Rev. Ilene Lehmann officiating. Interment in
