William H. 'Chickie' Parrish Sr. 1942-1992
1. Obituary: Dover- William H. "Chickie" Parrish Sr. of Dover died of heart failure Saturday Nov. 21, 1992, in Kent General Hospital, Dove. He was 50. Mr. Parrish was born in Hopewell Township, NJ., the son of William and Marion Parrish of Philadelphia.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ada D. Parrish; a son, William H. Parrish Jr. of Dover; three daughters, Ada D. Johnson and Marian A. Coker, both of Dover, and Karen L. Cutchin at home; a sister, Marian of Bristol, PA.; his maternal grandmother, Alberta Pritchett of Dover; eight grand children; and two step-grand children.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Immanuel Union Methodist Church, Cheswold. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Arrangements handled by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.
2. Obituary: (Copy not good--right side cut off) Wm. H. “Chickie” PARRISH, Sr., 50, of Dover, died Saturday of heart failure at Kent General Hospital, Dover, where he was a patient. Mr. Parrish was a farm worker in the Dover area for many years.
He was born in New Jersey and was raised in Philadelphia. He moved to Delaware in 1970. He is survived by his wife of -- years, Ada D.; a son, William -- Jr. of Dover; three daughters, A-- D. Johnson and Marian A. Coker, both of Dover, and Karen -- Cutchin at home; his parents, William and Marion Parrish of Philadelphia; a sister, Marian Keebl-- of Bristol, Pa.; his maternal grandmother, Alberta Pritchett of Dover; eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

William M. Parrish ~1920-2001
Contributed by Sherren Johnson Mosley 12 Jan 20011. Obituary: PHILADELPHIA -- William M. Parrish of Philadelphia died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001 in his home. He was 80.
Mr. Parrish was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was a retired pipe fitter with SKF Indutries in Philadelphia.
He was preceded in death by his son, William H. Parrish, in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marion L. Parrish;

Harold T. Paxton 1916-2004

Harold T. Paxton of Dover died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, in Westminster Retirement Village Health Center. He was 88. Mr. Paxton was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Hamilton, Ohio, son of the late Horace and Emma Paxton. He relocated to Dover in 1978 from living with his cousin, Clinton McKay, in Philadelphia.
He graduated in 1935 from Ross High School in Venice, Ohio. Mr. Paxton served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he worked as a carpenter with subcontractors from the local Mormon community in Salt Lake City, Utah, repairing burn holes in the tents from the hot stoves used to heat the tents. He also worked at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where new military equipment was tested. He was first employed by Reliable Floor Covering Co. as a delivery-truck driver, and he retired from the Pennsylvania Liquor Commission in 1978. He enjoyed midget-car racing in Northern Philadelphia as a spectator, laughing and saying, "I didn't have guts enough to drive them." His proudest accomplishment in his life was marrying his wife, Frances. Mr. Paxton's family are members of the local Ohio Methodist Church, where he was honored by having his name put on the front of the church for servicing his country. He became a Christian a few years ago and committed his life to Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Frances, of Dover; a stepson, William A. Morgan; and a grandson, Anthony V. Morgan.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Immanuel Union Church Cemetery, Cheswold.
Harold B. Perkins Jr. 1918-1988
Harold B. Perkins Jr., 70, of Alloway died Aug. 10 in Bridgeton Hospital following a long illness. Born in Delaware, Mr. Perkins had lived in Stow Creek Township before moving to Alloway 45 years ago. He retired in 1981 from Anchor Glass Container Corp. with 35 years of service. He was a member of the Glass Bottle Blowers Association.
Surviving are his wife Elizabeth (nee Simmons), one son, Harold B. III, of Alloway, three daughters, Mary E. and Helen S. Gordon of Alloway, and Charlotte J. Dieffenbach of Salem; a brother, Horace of Bridgeton; five sisters, Virginia Tombelson and Margaret Kripak of Millville, Doris Pellack of Philadelphia, Sara Pinchuck and Betty McCullen of Norristown, Pa.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 12 in the H.T. Layton Home and Son for Funerals in Salem. Burial was in the Alloway Baptist Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Hughes Perry ~1912-2003

Mary Elizabeth Hughes Perry of Felton died Friday, March 7, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 91. Mrs. Perry was born Feb. 7, 1912, near Willow Grove. She was the eighth of 11 children of the late Isaac H. and Sarah E. Hughes.
She attended the public school system in Willow Grove and the Groves Adult Education Facility in the Capitol School District. She worked for Playtex, Green Giant, and did domestic work from which she retired. She was also a foster parent to several young children. She had been very active until her health began to fail. Mrs. Perry joined the Bethuel Seventh-day Adventist Church of Dover at an early age and held several offices such as church clerk, Sabbath school teacher, secretary, and community services leader. She also sang in the choir and her favorite passage of scripture was Lamentations 3:22-26: "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because compassion fail not: great is thy faithfulness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Perry Jr.; five brothers, William T. Hughes, Mark Hughes, Jesse Hughes, David Hughes, and Roy Hughes; and four sisters, Mea H. Smith, Ruth Hughes, Grace Sockom, and Vergie Hughes. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alta M. and Morris R. Collick; a sister, Charlotte Cooper; three grandchildren, Curtis F. Winchester, William J. Winchester, and Gwen Winchester; six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover. Arrangements by Minus Funeral Home, Dover.
Leanna Dean Peterson ~1915-1992
1. Obituary: Leanna (Dean) Peterson, 77, a resident at the Cumberland County Medical Center, formerly of Fern Road, Bridgeton, died Saturday morning in South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division, where she was a patient for a week.
Born in Fairfield Township, she was the daughter of the late William and Dorcas Dean, and the wife of Arnold F. Peterson, who died in 1983. Mrs. Peterson was a homemaker most of her life.
She is survived by three daughters, Dorcas Reed of Hopewell Township, Beverly Dickinson of Elmer and Shirley Hunt of MilIville; two sons, Kenneth Ridgway of Alloway and Edgar Loatman of Bridgeton; a sister, Emma Pierce of Fairfield Township; three stepdaughters, Eleanor Orr and Nettie Lacy of Bridgeton and Ann Simons of Salem; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 8 p.m. today from the Sray Funeral Home, Carlls Corner, with the Rev. David P. Scull of the Jubilee Living Word Ministries officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton. Friends may call hour prior to the services today at the funeral home. Alice L. Peyton ~1939-1999
February 08, 1999Alice Lucy Peyton, 60, of Salem died Thursday in Christiana Hospital, Stanton, Del. Born in Salem to Alice Summiel of Salem and the late Granziel Summiel, she was a lifelong city resident.
She retired in 1997 from the New Jersey Department of Labor, Vineland Office, after 29 years of service. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Salem, and the Daughter Elks Lodge, Mount Salem Temple No. 114.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, James A. Peyton; two sons, Lewis Ridgeway of Providence, R.I., and Courtney Ridgeway of Middleton, Wis.; three daughters, Sharone Ridgeway of Wilmington, Del., Charmaine Thomas of Williamstown and Jacqueline Ridgeway of New Castle, Del.; three brothers, Randolph Summiel of Carneys Point Township, Richard Summiel of Lawrenceville, Va., and Thomas Summiel of Salem; a sister, Shirley Allen of Salem; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Lewis D. Ridgeway Sr.
Services are noon Wednesday in Mount Zion Baptist Church, Grieves Parkway, Salem, with Pastor Ollice Bates officiating. Daughter Elks services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards and Son Funeral Home Inc., 166 Seventh St., Salem, and 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Salem.
Peggy Lynn Pleasanton ~1977-1990
Peggy Lynn Pleasanton of Flying Dutchman Trailer Court, Felton, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 1990, in Christiana Medical Center, near Stanton, of head trauma sustained in a traffic accident on Del. 15 in Canterbury. She was 13.
Miss Pleasanton was an eighth-grade student at W.T. Chipman School, Harrington. She was a member of the school's field hockey team, and she worked in the school store.
She is survived by her father, Chester L. Pleasanton of Dover; her mother and stepfather, Barbara A. and Nicholas L. Dalton of Felton; six brothers, Linwood Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Van Johnson and Timothy Pleasanton, all of Dover, Chester E. Pleasanton of Hartly and Anthony Pleasanton of South Carolina; four sisters, Suzette Johnson and Linda Miller, both of Dover, and Nancy Sutton and Betty Miller, both of Rock Hall, Md.; two stepsisters, Laura Dalton and Angela Dalton, both of California; her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Lebron of Bridgeton. N.J.; her maternal grandfather, Nathan E. Tepper of Pennsville, N.J., and her stepgrandmother, Helen Dalton of Salter Path, N.C.
Funeral services will be private. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover.
Sarah Rebecca Mosley Pleasanton ~1910-2000
Sarah Rebecca Mosley Pleasanton of Rising Sun died after a long illness Sunday, June 4, 2000, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Dover. She was 90.
Mrs. Pleasanton was the daughter of the late George and Viney Mosley. She affiliated with M.F. Chase Church, Star Hill, at a young age, under the pastorate of Mother Mary F. Chase, and later joined St. John's A.U.M.P. Church in Woodside, where she served as trustee, stewardess and held many offices. During her later years, she returned to M.F. Chase Church and joined the fellowship there under the pastorate of Dr. Samuel L. Dixon.
Mrs. Pleasanton loved God, had a great love for her family, and will be remembered for her love for cooking, sharing her favorite recipes with many friends, her pickle relish, mustard pickle and hot rolls. She also loved to make people happy, cared for the sick and shared whatever she had with the less fortunate.
She is survived by a son, Russell Pleasanton Jr.; a daughter, Helen Pleasanton Hicks of Dover; two grandchildren, Clarence Wallace Hicks Jr. of Dover and Regan Hicks Goldstein of Swedesboro, N.J.; four great-grandchildren, Twyla and Kia Hicks of Dover and David and Benjamin Goldstein of Swedesboro; a niece, Hilda Mosley Flowers of Silver Spring, Md., whom she raised from a child as a daughter; four brothers, John Mosley of Philadelphia, Charles Mosley of Bridgeville, Herman Mosley of Felton and Bennie Mosley of Virginia; a son-in-law, Clarence W. Hicks Sr., whom she loved as a son and cared for her until her death; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Pleasanton; two nieces, Darlene Smith and Louise Neal; three special people, Jeffrey Goldstein (Regan's husband), Rosalind Hicks (Clarence Jr.'s wife) and Thomas Flowers (Hilda's husband); a godchild, Sheri Collins Humphrey; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at M.F. Chase Church, Star Hill, where friends may call two hours prior to service. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery, Willow Grove. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
Lucy Mae Postles 1913-2002
28 Sep 2002Lucy Mae Postles of Felton died of natural causes Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in the Capitol Nursing Home, Dover. She was 89. Mrs. Postles was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Star, Md., daughter of the late Raymond and Lottie Broadway Carter.
She attended school in Star, and after moving to Delaware, she attended Union School in Frederica. Mrs. Postles worked doing various production jobs during her lifetime. She loved spending time with her family. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was a day-care for her grandchildren. She loved cooking, gardening and reading the Bible. She was best known for her magic touch when frying chicken. Mrs. Postles was a member of the St. James Union A.M.E. Church in Frederica, where she served on the Stewardess Board, Missionary Society and Senior Choir, and as a past member of the culinary department.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arvil Postles; a son, Thomas Donald Carter; a grandson, Ronald Johnson III; five brothers, Rayfield, Olden, Harry, Kennard and Selby; and three sisters; Hilda, Marie and Dorothy. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Frances Johnson and Ronald Johnson Sr. of Felton and Clara Pittman of Frederica; a son, Arvil Junior Postles of Felton; a daughter-in-law, Delema Carter of Felton; a brother, Milford Carter of Frederica; a sister-in-law, Sadie Green of Felton; seven grandchildren, Donald, Duane, Kevin, LaTanya, Ronald Jr., Angela and Tamara, as well as LaTanya's husband, James; seven great-grandchildren, Cierra, Stephanie, Jocelynn, Kevin Jr., Brionna, Ronee and Makayla; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the St. James Union A.M.E. Church, Frederica, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will be in the Williamsville Cemetery, Williamsville. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
