Albert Pierce ~1909-1998

Albert Pierce, 89, of Bridgeton died Wednesday in South Jersey Hospital Bridgeton. The son of the late Arron and Helen Pierce, he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was employed by LoBiondo Brothers and Hunts as a driver, retiring in 1969. He enjoyed riding his bicycle around the downtown and neighborhoods. He was known as "Al, the bike rider."

Services will be noon Monday at Glory Tabernacle, 1018 Buckshutem Road, Bridgeton, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Bridgeton. Arrangements are by the Wesley Funeral Home, Bridgeton.

Mr. Albert H. Pierce Sr., the son of the late Enos and Helen Pierce, was a native of Bridgeton, New Jersey, where he was born on May 1, 1928.

He was united in Holy Matrimony with Annie Bell Ousley on July 5, 1947. Mr. Pierce, known to his friends as "Al," served in the United States Army during World War II. He later worked for the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he retired. He was a lover of electronics, and helping other people, by giving freely from his heart, everything.

Mr. Pierce passed away on Thursday, June 16, 1994, at the Jefferson Park Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Annie Bell Pierce; four sons and daughters-in-law, Milton (Brenda), Alfred Jr. (Joyce), Charles (Dorothy), and Thomas (Andria); also three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty (Jimmy), Bobby (Zolio) and Victoria; twenty lovely grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother, Edgar (Cynthia); three sisters, Althea, Roberta and Dorothy; and many other relatives and friends, who loved him very much.

Interment Thursday, June 23, 1994 -- 10 a.m., Fordville Cemetery, Bridgeton, New Jersey. The funeral procession will be leaving from the residence of 1433 N. 29th Street promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Alberta Pierce, age 74, of Bridgeton died Wednesday in Cumberland Manor. Born in Greenwich she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Virginia Davis Hymer. Mrs. Pierce was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughters, Rhoda Cain of Bridgeton, Verna Brennan of Greenwich, Virginia Ruberts of Bridgeton, Emma Hymer of Bridgeton, son, Walter Pierce III of Bridgeton, brother Melvin Hymer of Florida, sister, Verna Reed of Millville, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Predeceased by husband Walter Pierce Jr.

Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem-Quinton Road, Rt 49, Quinton Township where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Fernwood Memorial Park, Shiloh.

Alberta M. Pierce ~1934-2007

Alberta M. Pierce 73, of Gouldtown, died Thursday morning, Aug. 16, 2007 at South Jersey Healthcare-Regional Medical Center, Vineland, where she had been a patient the past 6 days. Her death was unexpected. Born in Bridgeton, the daughter of the late Wilbert L. and Anna M. (nee Webster) Pierce, she was the wife of the late William E. Pierce. She had been a resident of the Gouldtown area for the past 48 years.

Mrs. Pierce was formerly employed with the Fairfield Township, Board of Education as a Teacher¹s Aide. She was known as the historian of the family, and was very meticulous in genealogy. She was a great caregiver, not only to family, but to many of her friends as well. She enjoyed arts and crafts of all kinds, and was always working on a project. She enjoyed cooking, and spending time with her family and many friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Dottye Gould Smith, and her husband, Ron of Hagerstown, of Md., Jacqulyn Burroughs, and her husband, Robert of Norma, N.J., and Helen M. Fishman, and her husband, Dr.Scott Fishman, of Bridgeton; one brother, Lawrence W. Pierce Sr., and his wife, Geraldine, of Millville; 7 grandchildren, Wilbert Ryan Gould, Andre Burroughs, Lisa Burroughs, Kimmi Smith, Janet Burroughs, Mallory Bodhuin and Sarah Bodhuin; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. from Trinity A.M.E. Church, Rt. 49, Gouldtown. Dr. Michael Keen, pastor of the church, will officiate. 1.  Obituary: Albertson A. Pierce Jr., 33, of 694 Deerfield Drive, Seabrook died early Wednesday morning at his home. Born in Bridgeton, the son of Albertson A., Sr. and Katherine Johnson Pierce, he graduated from Bridgeton High School with the Class of 1972. He received his Federal Communications Commission electronic technician licenses.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Delores Glogau of RD 5; a nephew, Richard Glogau, and several aunts and uncles.

Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. C. Melvin Briggs from the Sray Funeral Home, 62 Landis Ave, CarlIs Corner.  Interment will be made in Fernwood Memorial Park. Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home

Alexander Pierce, 91, of RD 7, Fairton-Gouldtown Road died Monday morning at his home after a lengthy illness. An area resident all his life, he was born in Center Grove and was the husband of Emma C. Pierce.

He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church of Centerton.

In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons, Luther, Melvin, Herbert and Everett Pierce, all of Millville; two daughters, Dora Pierce and Carrie Durham, both of Millville; three stepchildren, Leon Gould Jr., Evelyn Harmon and Rosella Brown, all of Bridgeton; a foster son, Nathaniel Pierce; two sisters, Hester Coker of Palmyra and Ida Johnson of Bridgeton; 25 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted Thursday at 8pm from the Lively Funeral Home, 656 E. Commerce St. Interment will take place in Gouldtown Cemetery Friday at 10am. Friends may all Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

 

Alvin Pierce Sr. ~1925-1992

1.  Obituary:  Alvin Pierce Sr. , 67, of 190 Centerton Road, Upper Deerfield Township, died Thursday afternoon in South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division, where he was a patient, for 10 days.  He was in failing health several years. Born in Fairton, he was the son of the late Smith and Lydia Murray Pierce, and the husband of Katherine (Johnson) Pierce.

Prior to his retirement in 1976 due to poor health, he was employed for more than 19 years by Price Brothers of Bridgeton.

In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by a daughter, Dolores Glogau of Bridgeton; two brothers, Smith and Wanaca of Bridgeton; five sisters, Estella Pierce of Bridgeton, Olive and Eleanor Pierce of Pennsylvania, Verna Harris of Millville and Leona Hughes of Fairton; and a grandson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday from the Sray Funeral Home, Carlls Corner, with the Rev. Lyle Brown of Bethany Presbyterian Church officiating.  Interment will be in the family plot at Fernwood Memorial Park, Bridgeton.  Friends may call Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Alvin "Bucky" Pierce ~1941-1999

Alvin "Bucky" Pierce, 58, of Greenwich Township died Sunday in South Jersey Hospital -- Bridgeton. Born in Greenwich, son of the late Walter G. and Lucy Cuff Pierce, he was a longtime area resident.

Mr. Pierce was a Gold Seal Certified mechanic, employed by Gogel Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Agency in Bridgeton, and earlier worked for the Seibel and Stern Sewing Factory, Theber's Sewing Factory, and Shield Alloy Co. He was a model plane enthusiast, fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed wood crafts and welding.

Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Saunders; two sons, Alvin J. Jr. of North Carolina, and Arthur, of Pennsylvania; a brother, Gary, of Englewood, Fla.; seven sisters, Mary Manigan of Martinsburg, W.Va., Christina Bard and Isabele Vazquez, both of Deerfield Township, Shirley Williams of Shiloh, Dolores Jordan of Pittsgrove Township, Dorothy Mosley of Salem, and Carolyn Colburn of Millville; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter Pierce Jr. and Carl Pierce Jr., and a sister, Anna Mae Hymer.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family from the Padgett Funeral Home, Carll's Corner.

 

Alvin W. Pierce ~1938-2004

Alvin W. Pierce, age 66, of Deerfield Township died early Sunday morning, February 1, 2004 at his home. He had been in declining health for the past 14 months.  Born in Fairfield Township he was the son of the late Wanaca F. and Velma E. Pierce.

He had been a Deerfield Township resident for 34 years and had lived in Fairfield Township prior to that.  Mr. Pierce had been employed with Kimble Glass Company in Vineland for over 30 years before his retirement 3 years ago.  He was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of New Jersey and was an avid car collector and auto enthusiast.

Surviving are two sons, Alvin W. Pierce, Jr. of Vineland and Rodney A. Pierce of Buena; two brothers, Marvin Pierce of Fairfield Township and Kenneth Pierce of Rosenhayn; a sister, Darlene Carter of Pittsgrove Township, 3 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway #77, Upper Deerfield Township on Friday, February 6th at 12:00 noon.  Burial will take place at Greenwood Memorial Park in Millville. Andrew J. Pierce ~1923-2000

Andrew J. Pierce, 77, of Millville died Monday in South Jersey Hospital-Millville. Born and raised in Mays Landing, he serviced heaters for Harry L. Locke for 45 years until he retired in 1995.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theatre. He took part in the Normandy Invasion, the Northern France campaign, the Ardennes, where he was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge and received a purple heart. He also participated in the Battle of Rhineland Campaign. After the war, he worked for Vineland Dairy Co. for several years. He enjoyed fishing for flounder in Ludlam's Bay and playing cards, both poker and pinochle. He was a life member of the VFW Post No. 1807 of Clayton.

He is survived by his wife, Rhoda (Carman); two sons, William A. of Malaga; Joseph H. of Millville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his grandson, Joseph H. Pierce Jr. in July.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Christy Funeral Home, Millville. There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. 1.  Obituary: Anna M. Pierce of Millville died Friday in Bridgeton Hospital. She had been n failing health for the past 2½ years.  Born in Swarthmore, Pa., the daughter of the late Isaac J. and Mildred C. Driggus Green, she was the wife of Mayhew G. Pierce Sr. She had lived in Millville for the past 50 years and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by six daughters, Anna M. Mosley and Carol Pierce, both of Millville; Bertha E. Durham of Seaford, Del., Lillian M. Wilson of  Cheswold, Del., Rosella Gould of Fairton and Alice M: Steward of Bridgeton; a son, Mayhew J. Pierce Jr. of Millville; a brother, Oliver R. Green of Cedarville; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by four brothers, Isaac Green Jr., Robert C. Green, Carl H. Green and Alexander C. Green, and two sisters, Lillian Lloyd Green and Dorothy F. Green.

Anna M. Pierce, 94 of Bridgeton died early Sunday morning December 10, 2006 in South Jersey Regional Medical Center, Vineland where she had been a patient for the past several days.   Born in Fairton, N.J. she was the daughter of the late Russell and Bertha (nee Cuff) Webster, and the wife of the late Wilbert L. “Sonny” Pierce. She had been a Bridgeton area resident all of her life.

Mrs. Pierce was a homemaker, but she was formerly employed with Siebel and Stern in Bridgeton. She was a member of Trinity A.M.E. Church in Gouldtown, where she had served as a member of the Usher Board, Stewardess Board No. #2, and an emeritus member of the Missionary Board. She also served has a member of the Independent Church Aid. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Surviving to cherish her memory are one son, Lawrence W. Pierce Sr. and his wife Geraldine J. of Millville, and one daughter Alberta M. Pierce, of Fairfield Twp.; five grandchildren, Dottye Gould-Smith and her husband Ron of Hagerstown, Md., Jacqulyn Burroughs and her husband Robert of Norma, N.J., Helen M. Fishman and her husband Dr. Scott Fishman of Bridgeton, Lawrence W. Pierce Jr. and his wife Robyn of Jacksonville, Fla., and Melissa Bradshaw and her husband, Tyrone, of Millville; two sister-in-laws, Ida Webster and Sarah Webster both of Fairfield Twp.; 12 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, William E. Pierce; two brothers, Elmer and Lawrence Webster; one sister, Estella Riley, and a great granddaughter, Gerri Bradshaw.

Anthony Loshone Pierce ~1980-2002

Anthony Loshone Pierce, 22, of Harrington, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care.

Mr. Pierce attended Lake Forest School District where he played baseball for Harrington Little League. He was employed at Perdue Farms in Milford before his short illness.

He is survived by his mother, Janice Pierce and her companion Arthur Johnson of Felton; his father, Bruce Worthy of Williamville; a daughter, Shardaya Trotter of Harrington; his fiancée, Sophia Eley of Milton; four brothers, Lamoni Pierce of Magnolia, Dywane Pierce of Felton, Bruce and Troy Pierce, both of Florida; a sister, Sharwander Pierce of Felton; a sister-in-law, Schneir May-Pierce of Magnolia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Armstead Pierce, of Irving Avenue, died Sunday evening at Bridgeton Hospital. He was born in Pennsylvania on Dec. 23, 1888, and moved to Deerfield with his family when a boy. He had lived in the Bridgeton area all his life and on Irving Avenue 43 years.

Mr. Pierce was in the well drilling and plumbing business until his health failed him about a year ago.

Mr. Pierce and Carrie V. Cuff were married Aug. 12, 1912, in Christ Free Church by the Rev. J. H. Picking. The couple had two sons and five daughters; Henry A. and Oscar E. of Bridgeton and Pauline Valentine, Hancock’s Bridge, and Mary Coward, Oleta Pierce, Eleanor Ceasar and Anna Braxton, all from Bridgeton. Mr. Pierce is also survived by 24 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a brother Thomas and several nieces and nephews.

The Rev. William Johnson will officiate at funeral services Friday at 2 pm at Wesley’s Funeral Home, 17 South Burlington Avenue. Interment will be at Gouldtown Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 9.

Arnold J. Pierce, 61, of RD 7, Fairton-Gouldtown Road, Bridgeton died Wednesday at the Veteran’s Administration Medical center in Elsmere, Del. where he had been a patient for three days.  He had been in failing health for a month and his death was sudden and unexpected. Born in Upper Deerfield Township, the son of the late Harvey and Belle Green Pierce, he was the husband of Edith Hughes Pierce.  He had lived at his present address for 30 years and was a lifelong Bridgeton area resident.

Mr. Pierce was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He had been employed in the construction trade with several area firms, including Thompson’s paving in Bridgeton.  He was a member of Local 172 Laborer’s Union, Trenton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Harvey A. Pierce of Millsboro, Del. and Steven C. Pierce of Bridgeton; a brother, Casper Pierce of Bridgeton; two sisters, Darlene Fontanot and Armentha Cox, both of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday at 11am from the Padgett Funeral Home, State Highway 77, Bridgeton.  Interment will take place in Gouldtown Memorial Park. Friends may call Saturday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Arnold W. “Bunk” Pierce Sr., 70, of 3605 E. Fern St., Tampa, Fla. Died Friday morning in Tampa General Hospital. Born in Bridgeton, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert M. Pierce, Jr., he was the husband of Rosetta Hill Pierce. A resident of Gouldtown most of his life, he moved to Florida in 1982.

An U.S. Navy veteran, he was stationed at the submarine base in New London, Conn. Mr. Pierce was employed by Martin Dye Corp., retiring in 1982. He was a former member of Trinity AME Church of Gouldtown and also a former member of the Colonial Riders Motorcycle Club and Gouldtown Fire Co. No. 2. Mr. and Mrs. Pierce celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on July 28.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Arnold W. Jr.; three daughters, Darlene Streeter, Muriel J. Pierce and Vivian Pernell; seven grandchildren; a brother, Clarence M. Sr.; and a sister, Muriel Denby Gould; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at noon Wednesday from the Wesley’s Funeral Home, 17 S. Burlington Road, with the Rev. Alvin S. Stokes Sr. officiating. Burial will be made in Gouldtown Cemetery. Friends will be received from 11am to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Arthur M. Pierce Jr., 62, of S. Pine Street died suddenly Monday at his home. Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of the late Arthur and Pearl Lively Pierce and attended Bridgeton Public Schools.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Pierce was a long time employee of the Anchor Hocking Corporation of Salem and was also employed by the Kane Steel Company of Millville until he became disabled.

Surviving are three daughters, Jacqueline E. Spencer of New York, Arlene E. Horn of Millville and Audrey M. Gunter of Quinton; two sisters, Irma Williams of Salem and Eleanor James of Bridgeton; a friend, Rosie James of Bridgeton; an uncle, an aunt, eight grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held 1pm Saturday from Union Baptist Temple with the Rev. Albert Morgan officiating. Interment will be made in Gouldtown Memorial Park. Friends will be received one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the funeral home.

U.S. Army veteran Asa "Ace" H. Pierce Sr., 67, of Bridgeton, died suddenly Friday at his home. Born in Bridgeton, son of the late Ida Pierce Johnson and Allen Johnson, he was a lifelong resident.

He retired from Court House Cleaners, Bridgeton and was formerly proprietor of Ace Cleaners and Ace Stone Lettering. He was a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the King Memorial Church, Bridgeton.

Surviving are his loving companion, Dianna L. Mosley; two sons, Asa H. Jr. of Long Branch and Aurielus "J.J." of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a stepson, Aaron Mosley of Bridgeton; two daughters, Sheri Pierce of Massachusetts and Stephanie L. Pierce at home; a sister, Violet Johnson of Bridgeton; two grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Edwards and Son Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce St., Bridgeton. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

3. Funeral Program Obituary: Barbara Ellen Pierce, nee Morris, was born May 19, 1933 to Alfred N. Morris and the late Edith C. Sammons Morris.

Barbara was the fourth of ten children and lived on a farm in Dover, Delaware during her childhood. She attended school at the Fork Branch School in the Cheswold School District.

On March 25th, 1950 she married Francis (Bangie) Pierce and moved to Bridgeton, New Jersey where they resided for the forty years of their marriage, until her death on December 18, 1990 after a long and lengthy illness.

Barbara and Bangie’s marriage was blessed with four children, three sons and a daughter: Alfred, Mike, Tony and Patsy. From these four children Barbara was blessed with eleven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Barbara was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She showed her patience and kindness daily to her family and friends.   She never let her pain and suffering stop her from helping us and friends every day.

Barbara loved to paint crafts for others that Bangie had made in his workshop to give to others. Sometimes her hands would be so swollen from her arthritis that this would be difficult for her but she’d still carry on saying “It’s good exercise for my hands.” She also liked many other crafts, crocheting blankets and scarves for all of her grandchildren and helping Bangie in the garden each year and then canning the produce for family, friends and  church.

Barbara worked daily at instilling her social and spiritual values to her children and grandchildren. Maybe it would just be a smile, a  soft-spoken word of encouragement, and if need be  a sharp-spoken tongue to succeed at letting us know that although we were all one family we were all individuals and different in our own way.  What ever we chose to do it was okay with her as long as we did our best.

She worked 10 years at the M.C. Shrank Co. as a sewing inspector before retiring in 1963 due to a physical disability.

During her youth Barbara was a member of Immanuel Union United Methodist Church in Cheswold, Delaware. She was also a member of King Memorial Church where she was appointed missionary in 1960.  She later became a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Fordville, where she was a member till her passing.

Barbara was called so rest in the Cooper memorial Hospital,  Camden. N.J. December 18, 1990,  after a series of many health complications.

She left behind to mourn her loss her husband, Francis Pierce, father, Alfred Morris, three sons, Alfred, Michael and Tony, one daughter,  Patricia.  She also leaves eleven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; Deanna, Michael, Darrell, Brad, Vincent, Brian, Kimberly, Melissa, Tina, Shelly, Cassie, Crissy and Jason; two sisters; Gertrude Mosley and Gladys Burrell;  five brothers, Thomas Carlos, George Allen and Wendell Morris;  three daughters-in law Debbie Rose and Michele; many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends She was predeceased by a sister, Bertha Sammons and a brother, Richard Morris

Belle Pierce 1901-1979

Belle Pierce, 77, of RD 7, Woodruff Road, Gouldtown, died Sunday in Bridgeton Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Pierce was born in Fairfield Township and had resided in the area all her life. For the past year she had resided with her granddaughter, Gerldene Pierce of Bridgeton.

She was last employed by Ike’s Bar as a barmaid.

Surviving are four daughters, Gertrude Goff of Bridgeton, Marsella Robinson of Hancock’s Bridge, Armentha Cox and Darlene Fontenot, both of Detroit, Mich.; three sons, Lester, Casper and Arnold, all of Bridgeton; two sisters, Mary Gould of Bridgeton and Pansy Cuff of Camden; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Services will be held Thursday at 1pm from the Lively Funeral Home, 656 E. Commerce St. Friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Bernetta S. Pierce   1923-2006

Bernetta S. Pierce 83, of Fairfield Township died suddenly Sunday November 26, 2006 at her home. Her death was unexpected.  Born in Bridgeton, N.J. on May 2, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Clement Lockman and the late Sadie E. (nee Roberts) Lockman Cuff, and the wife of the late Wayman A. Pierce Jr.. She was a longtime resident of the Fairfield Township area.

Mrs. Pierce was formerly employed with the Fairfield Township School system working for 20 years in the food service cafeteria area. She was a former member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church where she formerly served on both the Usher and Stewardess Boards. For the past 10 years she has attended the Bridgeton Assembly of God Church where she especially enjoyed making crafts for the holiday seasons for the Missionettes. She also was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe of Bridgeton.

Surviving to cherish her memory are three sons Rudolph H. Pierce of Newark Delaware, Curtis N. Pierce and his wife Debra of Bridgeton, Vincent H. Pierce and his wife Audrey of Bridgeton, one daughter, Sheila Y. (Pierce) Nichols and her husband Harold of Bridgeton, one brother William R. Lockman Sr. of Hopewell Township one step brother Rodney Cuff of Hopewell Township, eleven grand children Victor Nichols, Kyle Pierce, Sheila Pierce, Curtis Pierce Jr., Glenn Pierce Corey Nichols, Curtis Nichols, Kelly Pierce, Brian Pierce, Vincent Pierce Jr. and Willie Cisrow III, one grand daughter in law Sharon Nichols, and seven great grand children.  Besides her parents and her husband she was predeceased by one son Wayman Pierce III, and two brothers Belford and Russell Lockman.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Thursday November 30, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. from the Sray-Webster Funeral Home, 62 Landis Ave. at Carll’s Corner, Upper Deerfield Township. The interment will be in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Township.  A viewing will be held on Thursday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the services. Bessie E. Pierce, 91, of Fairfield Township died Saturday in South Jersey Hospital – Bridgeton. Born in Elsinboro, daughter of the Late Panzy Cuff, she lived in Fairfield for 16 years after moving from Bridgeton.

She had been employed by the P.J. Ritter Co. in Bridgeton for 31 years before retiring 22 years ago. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Fordville.

Surviving are a daughter, Hazel E. Pitts of Fairfield; 13 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas F.; two sons, Frank T. and Leon J.; and a sister, Jennie E. Jones.

Services will be private at the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, followed by burial in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield. There will be no viewing.

Blanche C. Pierce ~1927-2001

Blanche C. Pierce of Fairfield Township, N.J., died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, in her home. She was 74. She had been in failing health for several months. Mrs. Pierce was born in Kent, Del., daughter of the late John H. and Viola Carney Beckett. She had lived at her present address since 1964 and prior to that had lived in the Elmer area.

She had formerly been employed with Mark Manufacturing Co., Industrion Co., Theber Manufacturing Co., and K&M Clothing Co.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Pierce. She is survived by five sons, Charles W. Pierce, Larry D. Pierce, and Mark K. Pierce, all of Fairfield Township, John J. Pierce of Greenwich, and Dennis F. Pierce of Newfield; two daughters, Carol E. Gould and Joyce E. Pierce, both of Fairfield Township;, eight brothers; two sisters, 14 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the Rev. Debbie Pierce will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township.

 

Camilla ''Cammie'' Pierce ~ 1922-2001

Camilla ''Cammie'' Pierce, 79, of Millville, died Saturday at South Jersey Hospital--Newcomb. She had been in declining health for the past three years. She was born in Upper Deerfield Twp, and was the daughter of the late Elias and Camilla Pierce, and the wife of Vernon L. Pierce. She had lived at her present address for 50 years; Prior to that, she lived in the Carmel area.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Ellsworth Pierce of Hopewell Twp. and Whilden Pierce of Millville and several nieces and nephews, including Donna Mosley of Bridgeton. She was pre-deceased by one brother, Elias Pierce Jr., and two sisters, Reba Lloyd and Harriet Pierce.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. Burial will take place at Fordville Memorial Park in Fairfield Twp. Friends may call on Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

 

Carl "Junior" Pierce  Jr.

Carl "Junior" Pierce Jr., 65, of Alloway Township died Friday in South Jersey Hospital System-Bridgeton.  Born in Quinton, son of the late Carl and Lucy (nee Cuff) Pierce, he lived in Alloway for 18 years.

He had been employed as a truck driver with C. Harrell Company in Elmer for more than 20 years, and earlier worked at Mannington Mills in Salem County.  He was a member of Bethany Christian Church, the Lenni-Lenape Indian Tribe and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He liked to fish and camp.

Surviving are his wife, Christina (nee Cuff) Pierce; a daughter, Lisa Brown of Clayton; a step-daughter, Joanne Lockman of Hopewell Township; a step-son, Joseph Pierce of Fairfield Township; two brothers, Alvin of Greenwich Township and Gary of Florida; ten sisters, Alice Johnson of Pennsgrove, Donna Mosley of Deerfield, Mary Manigan of West Virginia, Christina Bard of Deerfield Township, Dolores Jorden of Pittsgrove Township, Shirley Williams of Shiloh, Isabelle Vasquaz of Deerfield Township, Marie Shaffer of Fairfield Township, Dorothy Mosley of Salem, and Carol Colburn of Millville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held at noon Wednesday in the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township.
 
 

Carlton B. Pierce 1913-1994

Carlton B. Pierce, 80, of Fairfield Township died Tuesday at the South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division after a brief illness. Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of the late Eugene and Bertha Pierce and the husband of the late Dorothy R. Pierce. He spent his entire life in the area.

He went to work at an early age for Woodruff Oil Company and remained there for more than 40 years. He retired in 1978. He was a member of Ionic Lodge No. 40, F.&A.M., P.H.A., a past patron and worshipful master of Ionic Lodge No. 15 Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of DeLugo Consistory in Camden and A.A.S.R. of Free Masonry of New Jersey. Mr. Pierce served with the Bridgeton Rescue Squad for many years and was still an active member of the Cumberland County Fair Association. He was also a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church of Fordville.

He is survived by a son, Fred Pierce of Vineland; a brother, David Pierce of Fairfield Township; sisters, Cora Ward, Bertha Pierce and Ella Rodgers; and three grandchildren.

There will be a public viewing at Wesley’s Funeral Home, Burlington Road, Bridgeton, 7 to 9pm Friday. Funeral services will be held Saturday from the funeral home at 1pm. With a one hour viewing prior to the service. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Memorial park. Funeral arrangements ware under the direction of Wesley’s Funeral Home, Bridgeton.

 

Catherine Pierce 1908-1962

Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Pierce, aged 53 years will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, with the rector the Rev. E. Thomas Higgons, officiating.

Mrs. Pierce died Sunday evening at her home on Burlington Road following failing health of five years. She had been bedfast since December and had been home from the hospital about 10 days.

She was born in the Bridgeton area, the daughter of the late Granville and Myrtle Pierce, and was the wife of Vernon P. Pierce, and had resided in this area all of her life, living at the Burlington Road address for about 30 years.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Alex P. Pierce and Harry S. Pierce, both at home; two step-sons, Carl W. Pierce of Bridgeton and Edward N. Pierce, Philadelphia; two foster daughters, Mrs. Reba Guzman of Vineland, and Mrs. Emmaline Gould, Bridgeton; three brothers, Alex Pierce, Asa Pierce and Clarence Pierce, all of Bridgeton; three sisters, Mrs. Hester Coker of Palmyra, Mrs. Ida Johnson and Mrs. Charlotte Mosley, both of Bridgeton; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild and nieces and nephews. The interment will be in Gouldtown Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call the Carll Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce Street Tuesday evening from 7 until 8 o’clock.

 

Charles “Dicky” Harold Pierce ~1929-1993

1. Obituary: Charles Pierce, 64, of RD #7, Box 527, Clarks Pond Road, Bridgeton, died Wednesday evening at his late residence. He had been seriously ill for the past 13 months. Born in Bridgeton, he was the son of the late Jediah and Mable Dunn Pierce and the husband of Blanche Beckett Pierce. He had lived at his present address for 28 years and was a lifetime Bridgeton area resident. 

Prior to his retirement two years ago he was employed as a union carpenter with Union Local #121 of Vineland for 41 years.  Mr. Pierce was a member of the Nanticoke Leni-Lenape Indian Center in Bridgeton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Charles W., Larry D., John J., Mark K. and Dennis F. Pierce, all of Bridgeton; two daughters, Carol E. Gould and Joyce E. Washington, both of Bridgeton; four brothers, Ralph, Russell, Herbert and Francis Pierce, all of Bridgeton; 11 grandchildren; an aunt and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday from St. John’s United Methodist Church, Fordville Road, Fordville with the Rev. Richard Wilson officiating.  Interment will be made in Fernwood  Memorial Park, Bridgeton. 3.  Funeral Program: Charles “Dicky” Harold Pierce 64, of Clark’s Pond Road, Bridgeton, N.J.  died  on Wednesday,  April 14, 1993 at home following an extended illness.

Charles was born in Rosenhayn, N.J. on Nov. 3, 1928.  He was the son of the late Jediah Pierce and Mabel Dunn Pierce.  Charles, better known to family and friends as “Dicky”  attended the Bridgeton school systems. He met and married Blanche Beckett, the daughter of the late Herman and Viola Beckett. They were married on April 12, 1947. Charles and Blanche recently celebrated Their 46th anniversary. Of their union seven children were born: Wayne, Larry, Carol,  Joyce, Johnny, Mark and Dennis.

Charles was a loving father and devoted husband. He joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 121 Of Vineland, N.J. in 1954.   Charles retired after 36 years of service. Charles recently renewed his vows with his lord and his church family here at St. John under Rev. Richard Wilson.

Charles was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt game and even more so loved to take his boat fishing. He enjoyed working in his annual vegetable garden, but his true love was his “hot house and nursery.”

Charles leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Blanche; seven children, Charles Wayne Pierce;  Larry Pierce, Carol Pierce-Gould, Joyce Pierce Washington, Johnny Pierce, Mark Pierce, and Dennis Pierce, all of which are from Bridgeton, (Fairfield Twp.)  He also leaves behind four brothers; Ralph J. Pierce, Alvin (Russell) Pierce, Herbert H. Pierce and Frederick F. (Bangie) Pierce, all of Fairfield  Twp.  He was predeceased by a sister, Helen, brothers, Morris Pierce, James Pierce and a half brother  Henry Dunn. Charles leaves eleven grandchildren and a host of nieces And nephews.

Chester J. Pierce Sr., 83, of 756 Steward Ave., Fairfield Township, died Sunday evening in South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division, where he was a patient four days. He was in declining health for two years. The son of the late Austin and Viola (Pierce) Pierce, he was born in Fairfield Township and was the husband of the late Gertrude (Cuff) Pierce, who died in 1978. A lifetime resident of the community, he resided at the Stewart Avenue address 56 years.

Prior to his retirement in 1978, Mr. Pierce was employed in maintenance at the former Bridgeton Dye and Finishing Company and he previously worked at the former Ferracute Machine and Bond Baking companies. Throughout his life, he owned and operated a farm.

He is survived by a son, Chester "Junior" Pierce, Jr. at home, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 am Thursday from the Carll-Peterson-Ilacqua Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce St., with the Rev. Matthew Brown of the John Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Fernwood Memorial Park, Bridgeton. Friends may call Thursday morning one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Clayton G. Pierce ~1934-2002

Clayton G. Pierce, of Vineland, died Sunday in South Jersey Hospital System-Newcomb Division. He was 68. He had been a patient in the hospital for the past 2 weeks and in failing health for 5 months. Mr. Pierce was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Howard E. and Susan Pierce. He had been a Vineland resident for 3 years, coming from Millville.

Prior to his retirement he had been employed with Laning Bros. Farm in Fairfield Township and the Charles Graves Farm in Cedarville. He was a member of the Nanticoke Leni Lenape Indians.

Survivors include: three daughters, Sherlene L. Hurd, Atlantic City, Marilyn J. Pierce, New York City and Thelma A. Davis, Bridgeton; three sisters, Dorothy Ridgway, Bridgeton, Katherine Harden, Vineland and Barbara Carr, Las Vegas, NE; three brothers, Kenneth J. Pierce, Cedarville, Ralph H. Pierce, San Diego, CA, and Ellsworth Pierce, Millville and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Pierce.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, Dec. 13 at 11 o'clock in the Padgett Funeral Home, 160 Main St., Cedarville. Burial will be in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home Friday morning one hour prior to the services.

 

Clifford C. Pierce, Sr. ~1926-1998

1. Obituary August 8, 1998: Clifford C. Pierce Sr., 72, of Vineland died early Friday morning at his home. Born in Fairton, son of the late Clifford H. and Rhoda Murray Pierce, he was the husband of Thelma Marie Sammons Pierce. He had been employed by Don Rogers, Inc. as. an equipment operator for 20 years, retiring in 1979.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 15 years are two sons, Clifford Jr. of Bridgeton and John W. of Vineland; a daughter, Janet Streets of Fairfield Township; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, William.

Cora Mae Pierce, 47, of Garry Avenue and Main Road, died suddenly at 8pm yesterday.  Coroner J. Allison Kruse, who investigated, issued a certificate of death by coronary embolism.

Mrs. Pierce is survived by her husband, Aaron; five sons, Elmer Durham, of the U.S. Army, stationed in California; Smith, Reynolds and Enoch Durham of Vineland, and Lloyd Durham of Bridgeton; three daughters, Mrs. Lola Mae Riley, Helen and Mildred Pierce of Vineland, and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 4:30 at the DeMarco Funeral Home with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday evening at her late residence.  Pallbearers were Pasquale DiEmma, Norris Durham, Levi Street, George Grenaged, Fiori Simions, & Anthony Cerio.

 

Della M. Jones Pierce ~1893-1983

Della M. Pierce, 90, formerly of 2428 Shelbourne Ave., Millville, died at the Malloy Nursing Centre on Sunday evening after an extended illness. She had been residing at Malloy's the past 18 months. Born in Bridgeton, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Media Jones and the wife of the late Forrest F. Pierce. She had resided with her daughter, Della White, at the Millville address before Mrs. White moved to RD 4, Finlaw Avenue in Fairfield Township.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a nephew, John Jones of Bridgeton-Fairton Road.

Private services were held this morning from the Freitag Funeral Home with the Rev. C. Melvin Briggs, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Interment was made in the family plot at Fernwood Memorial Park. Pallbearers were George Dickinson, Elton Watson, William L. Burdsall, Kenneth W. Freitag, Edward Carlton and Harry A. Freitag. The family suggests contributions in Mrs. Pierce's memory be made to the Fairfield Fire and Rescue Squad.

Dorothy Beatrice Ridgeway Pierce ~1919-1989

1.  Obituary: Dorothy B. Pierce, 70, of Bridgeton died Tuesday in South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division where she had been a patient for 10 days.  Born in Dover, Del., the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Ridgeway of Hopewell Township and the late Fred Ridgeway, she was the wife of Carlton Pierce.  Mr. and Mrs. Pierce celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May.

Mrs. Pierce was educated in local schools.  She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and past matron of Ionic Chapter 15.  She was also a member of the Gold Circle in Camden and past commandress of Zamora Temple 135.  For 15 years, she was dispatcher for the rescue squad and was a volunteer for the March of Dimes.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by a son, Fred E. Pierce Sr.; three grandchildren; three brothers, Henry, Norman and Jerry Ridgeway; four sisters, Mrs. Albert (Christine) Miller, Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Carney, Mrs. Jacob (Lillian) Pierce and Mrs. Marvin (Pauline) Gould; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by two sons, Carlton and Carl Pierce, three brothers and a sister, Mrs. David (Thelma) Loatman.

Services will be held at noon Saturday from St. John’s United Methodist Church, Fordville. Burial will be made in Cedar Hill Memorial Park.  Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wesley’s Funeral Home.

Edward T. Pierce ~1949-2007

Edward T. Pierce, 58, of Upper Deerfield Township, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007. He was born in Bridgeton and was the son of Oleta Pierce, of Upper Deerfield Township, and the late Kermit Pierce. He had been a lifetime resident of the Bridgeton area.

Prior to his retirement, Kermit had been employed as a master technician with the Fairton Marina for several years. He was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indian Tribe, the Quinton Sportsman¹s Club, National Rifle Assoc. and had been an avid Harley Davidson Motor Cycle enthusiast.

Besides his mother, survivors include two sons, Edward T. Pierce Jr., Eden, Md., and Shawn D. Saunders, Newark, Md.; and one brother, Kermit Pierce Jr., Upper Deerfield Township.

Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 1, at 2 o¹clock. Burial will be in Gouldtown Memorial Park, Fairfield Township. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon, between 1 and 2 o¹clock. Eliza Dean Pierce ~1900-1982

1.  Obituary:    Eliza Dean Pierce, 82, of RD 7, Box 432, died Monday morning in the Mallory Nursing Centre where she was a patient for five weeks after being in  failing health the past year. Born in Fairfield Township, she was the daughter of the late William and Dorcas Dean and the wife of the late Orwig Max Pierce Sr., who died in 1946.  Mrs. Pierce had been employed by the M.C. Schrank Co. for over 25 years as an inspector, retiring in 1972.

She is survived by a son, Orwig M. Pierce Jr. of RD 7; two daughters, Mrs. Presley (Sarah) Durham of RD 4 and Mrs. Francis (Edith) Ridgway of RD 7; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Dean of RD 8, and two sisters, Emma Pierce of RD 7 and . Leean  Peterson of Bridgeton.

Mrs. Pierce was a member of the Fordville United Methodist Church for 50 years and in the absence of her pastor, services will be conducted by the Rev. Hershel Mosley on Thursday at 8 p.m. from the Sray Funeral Home, Carlls Corner.

Elnora C. Pierce ~1919-2003

Elnora C. Pierce of Ardmore, a resident of Monroeville, N.J., most of her life, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia. She was 84. Mrs. Pierce was born in Dover, Del., daughter of the late William H. and Cora Durham Morgan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin; and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald and Grace of Ardmore and William and Shirley of Smyrna, Del.; and four grandchildren, Adam, Brandon, William Jr. and Tracy Blanchfield.

A celebration of her life will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in Christy-Adams Funeral Home, 111 S. Main St., Elmer, N.J. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Monroeville Fire Co., P.O. Box 958, Monroeville, NJ 08343.

 

Elsie Pierce 1926-2007

Elsie L. Pierce, 81, of Deerfield Township died suddenly and unexpected on Friday morning February 2, 2007 in Genesis Elder Care, Millville where she had been a patient under rehabilitation for two days. Born in Newport, NJ on Jan. 24, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Hollie and Helen (nee Jackson) Saunders, and the wife of Herbert A. Pierce Sr. She and her husband were long time area residents of the Deerfield area.

Mrs. Pierce formerly worked at Owens Illinois on B Shift, and was also employed at the former Siebel and Stern factory in Bridgeton, and the Deerfield Township School System as a Lunchroom Aide. She was an active member of the Bridgeton Assembly of God Church where she served in the Women's Ministry, and the Carmel Fire Company's Ladies Auxillary where she formerly served as President. She also was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Indian Tribe of Bridgeton, and the Colonial Riders Motorcycle Club in Carmel. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all.

Surviving her besides her husband of 62 years are two children Herbert A. Pierce Jr. and his wife Joan of Deerfield Township, and Helen S. Mosley and her husband John I. of Deerfield Township, one brother Hollie Saunders and his wife Lorraine of California, and two sisters Charlotte Carney and Mary Ward both of Upper Deerfield Township, four grandchildren Nina Miller and her husband John Jr., Kelli Street, Meghan L. Mosley, and Herbert A. Pierce III and his fiancé Jeanette Armstrong, five great grandchildren Tashia Vocolos, Devon Vocolos, John Miller III, Katelyn Street, and Allysin Street, one godchild Connie Brooks, and several nieces and nephews.

1.  Obituary: Emma C. (Dean) Pierce, 9l, of Fairfield Township died early Sunday at her residence.  She had been in failing health for the past month. Born in Bridgeton, Mrs. Pierce was a seamstress most of her life, most recently working for 10 years at the Chatam Dress Co. of Bridgeton. She was the daughter of the late William and Dorcas Dean.

She was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indian tribe. She was also a member of the Centerton Freewill Baptist Church.

 Surviving are two daughters, Evelyn Harmon and Rosella  Brown, both of Fairfield Township; a step-daughter, Carrie  Durham of Carmel; four step-sons, Luther, Melvin, Herbert and Everett Pierce, all of Carmel; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and  one great-great-grandson.  She was predeceased by a son, Leon Gould Jr., who died in l983.

Enos Walter Pierce 1925-1990

Enos Walter Pierce was born in Media, Pennsylvania on October 24, 1925. Enos was the first child of the late Helen M. and Enos Pierce Jr. Enos was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in December 1945.

On April 24, 1948, he joined in holy matrimony to the late Emelyn W. Harris. From this union two daughters were born, Emelyn Noreen and Pamela Ann. Later he was united in marriage with Marie B. Delbeau. He retired in 1984 as a Postal Investigator after 32 years of loyal service. Enos was confirmed in both the Episcopal and Catholic Church. He enjoyed and spent many hours operating his HAM and CB radios. Enos was active in the American Indian community and served as Executive Vice President for the United American Indians of the Delaware Valley. In addition, Enos was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Organization.’

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Marie B; Pierce, daughters, Emelyn N. and Pamela Anne; two stepsons, Gary and Joseph Delbeau; two grandsons, Kyle and Leonard; two brothers, Alfred H. Pierce and Edgar Bowles; three sisters, Althea, Roberta and Dorothy; two sons-in-law, Linden and Larry; a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Ernest Pierce Sr. ~1907-1989

1.  Obituary: Ernest Pierce Sr., 82, of RD 3, Box 130, Davis Mill Road, Greenwich died Sunday. He was stricken at home and rushed to the South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division where he did not respond to treatment. Born in Greenwich, the son of the late Henry and May Pierce, he was the husband of Mildred Seeney Pierce. He had resided in Greenwich all his life and had lived at his present address for the past 25 years.

Mr. Pierce farmed all his life and was also a carpenter. Upon his retirement he enjoyed his garden and supplied Greenwich residents with fresh vegetables.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ernest Pierce Jr. and Warren Pierce Sr., both of Greenwich; a daughter, Mrs. Ferdinand (Reba) Gould Jr. of Stow Creek; a brother, Charles Pierce of Hopewell Township; a sister, Mrs. Wilbert (Mildred) Pierce of Greenwich; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Pierce was predeceased by a sister, Alice Loatman.

Services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. A.C. McKenzie, retired Nazarene pastor, from the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 613 Salem-Quinton Road, (Route 49) Salem.  Burial will be made in Fernwood Memorial Park.  Friends may call one hour  prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ernest F. Pierce, Jr., 57, RD 3, Davis Mill Road, Greenwich Township died Wednesday in South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division where he was a patient for 10 days after being in failing health the past six months. Born in and a lifetime resident of Greenwich, he was the son of Mildred E. Seeney Pierce of Greenwich and the late Ernest F. Pierce Sr. and the husband of Dorothy E. Tapp Pierce.

Mr. Pierce was a foreman for Don Rogers Inc. of Bridgeton for over 30 years until his health forced his retirement in January. He attended the West Park United Methodist Church. An avid hunter, he was also engaged in farming.

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a son, Russell Pierce of Johnstown, Pa.; three daughters, Elaine Ernst of Woodbine, Janice Hitchner and Catherine Gerace of Millville; a brother Warren Pierce Sr. of Greenwich; a sister Reba Gould of Stow Creek; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family at the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 613 Salem-Quinton Road Route 49, Salem. There will be no public viewing.

Mrs. Pierce was born Dec. 15, 1935, in Dover, daughter of the late Claude Pritchett Sr. and Nellie Mae Durham Pritchett. She was married to Winfred Pierce.

She worked in the linen department at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna. She had previously worked for Fleischer's Bakery and the Capital School District. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, canning and preserving. Her passion was her family; she was generous and loved people. She loved her dog Rusty, and was dedicated to her grandchildren. She was a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Pierce was a member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, the Alliance Women-Mid Atlantic District in Secretary, Md., and Calvary Assembly of God Church in Dover.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Winfred of Dover; a son and daughter-in-law, Burt and Judy Pierce of Dover; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Paul Newcomb of Cambridge, Md., and Julia Annette and John Marvel of Clayton; a stepdaughter, Carmen Zacharias, and her husband, Gary, of Markesan, Wis.; two brothers, Austin Pritchett of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Claude Pritchett Jr. of Dover; three sisters, Lorraine Miller, Betty Loatman of Dover and Carolee Crum of Pedrickton, N.J.; and seven grandchildren Casey Cannon, Matthew Cannon, Andy Adams and Katie, Kara, David and Josiah Zacharias.

Evelyn Louise Pierce ~1941-2002

E. Louise Pierce (nee Robinson) 61, of Fairfield Township died late Sunday evening May 12, 2002 at her home where she had been in declining health. The wife of Leslie H. Pierce, she was born in Fairton and was the daughter of the late Albert B. and Evelyn (nee Pierce) Robinson. Mrs. Pierce had been an area resident all her life and had lived at her current address for the last twenty-five years.

For the last thirty years, Mrs. Pierce was employed by the Cumberland County Board of Social Services and had worked as a clerk, typist and supervisor. In addition, she had been the secretary to George Rocap and also Gregory Curliss. Prior to working for social services, she was employed for ten years at Seibel and Stern in Bridgeton.
A 1960 graduate of Bridgeton High School, she grew up attending the Fordville Methodist Church and most recently had visited the Church of God of Prophecy in Bridgeton.
She enjoyed vacationing in Wildwood where she spent two weeks in the spring and two weeks in the summer. In addition, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and taking long rides in the car.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Leslie Scott Pierce, Sr. of Vineland; four grandchildren, Leslie Jr., Victoria, Julia and Isaiah Pierce; one sister, Carol Green of Toms River; two daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon May 15th at 2 o'clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Bishop Capron of the Church of God Prophecy in Bridgeton officiating. The interment will be made at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hopewell Township. Florence E. Bentley Pierce, 55, of Salem died Friday in Cooper Medical Center, Camden. She was the daughter of Eleanor Bentley and the late William Bentley.

Surviving in addition to her mother are three sons, David Pierce of Bridgeton, Arnold and William Pierce of Salem; four daughters, Eleanor Pierce Richardson, Nanette Pierce and Eunice Pierce, all of Salem and Robin Pierce of Hamilton Township; a sister, Joanne Bentley of Vineland; and her companion, John Fedd.
She was predeceased by a brother, James Powell.

Services are noon Thursday in Soul Saving Center, Johnson Street, Salem, where friends may call after 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Salem.   Arrangements are by Bagwell Funeral Home, Penns Grove.

Florence M. Pierce ~1929-2004

Florence M. "Falling Rain" Pierce, 75 of Fairfield Twp. died early Friday morning at her residence. She had been in failing health for the past year. Born in Hopewell Twp. she was the daughter of the late Lewis "White Buffalo" Pierce Sr. and Arbella "Glowing Sun" Gould Pierce. She was the long time companion of Ismael R. Ortiz.

Florence was a long time resident of Fairfield Twp. and a member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Tribe of Bridgeton. Her love of sewing led her to employment in several local factories including MC Schrank Co., Model Blouse, Rennocs, and Santa's Best from which she retired in 1999. She always found enjoyment in spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her companion are two daughter Arlena Ridgway and husband William and Louvica Gould and husband John, both of Fairfield Twp, five sons James Pierce and wife Bernetta of Bridgeton, Percival Peirce and wife Darla of Bridgeton, George Peirce of Fairfield Twp, Nelson Pierce and wife Marlee of Fairfield Twp and William Pierce an wife Robbin of Hopewell Twp, one brother Lewis Pierce Jr. of Upper Deerfield Twp., three sisters Louise Cuff of Cohansey, Anna Mae Wright of Fairfield Twp., and Louvica Mann of Millville. Fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter Janet Pierce in 1986.

Graveside funeral services will be held at the convenience of th family in the family plot in Gouldtown Cemetery, Fairfield Twp. At the family's request there will be no public viewing. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the SRAY-WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, 62 Landis Ave., Carll's Corner, Upper Deerfield Twp.

1. Obituary:  Frances E. Pierce, aged 82, of Deerfield Twp., on Sunday, August 22, 2004, in the South Jersey Healthcare/Regional Medical Center in Vineland. She had been in failing health for the past 7 months. The wife of the late Luther S. Pierce Sr., who passed away in November of 2000, she was born in Bridgeton on February 24, 1922, the daughter of the late Alverna Cuff. She was raised by the late Howard and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Stewart.

Prior to her retirement 10 years ago, she had worked for the former Seible and Stern Sewing Factory in Bridgeton and had driven a school bus for Pierce’s Bus Service. She retired from the Cumberland County CATS program as a communications operator and senior bus radio dispatcher. Frances was a faithful member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Fordville, serving as president of the Senior Usher Board. She was a member of Wenonah Temple #165 in Bridgeton, the Nora F. Taylor Council of Southern New Jersey and was a Past State President, Past, Past Granddaughter Ruler of the Grand Temple and Grand District Deputy of the I.B.P.O. Elks of the World. Also Past Matron of the Ionic Chapter #15 O.E.S., P.H.A. of Bridgeton, the Colonial Riders Motorcycle Club and Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians. She was an avid reader and also loved to travel.

Survivors include one son, Luther S. Pierce Jr. and his wife, Ivanette of Deerfield Twp.; three grandchildren, Cathy Zehrung and her husband, DAvid of Silverton, Ore., LuAnn Echevarria and her husband, Edwin of Millville and Luther S. Pierce III and his wife, Dawn of Upper Deerfield Twp.; two sisters, Josephine Bevans of Chester Pa. and Ethel Jordan of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; four great grandchildren, Dionisia Echevarria, Antonio Echevarria, Danielle Zehrung and Luther S. Pierce IV; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Pierce; two brothers, Clifford Fouat and LeRoy Johnson; and one sister, Mildred Johnson.

Frank William Pierce

Frank William Pierce, 47, of Lynchburg, Va., and formerly of Bridgeton, died Sunday in Lynchburg. Born in Bridgeton, the son of Marian D. Pierce and the late Howard R. Pierce Sr., he was the husband of Jackie Sparrow Pierce. He attended Bridgeton area schools. He attended Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). Before moving to Virginia, he worked at the Pennsylvania Glass and Sand Company in Newport. He loved motorcycles and was a CB enthusiast using the handle "Little Boy Blue."

Surviving in addition to his mother and wife are three daughters, Lernell Rhett and Yasmen Oliver, both of Vineland and Ke’Sha Hawkins of Baltimore, Md.; four brothers, Howard Jr. of Vineland, and Olin, Leroy and Anthony, all of Bridgeton; a sister, Helen Hopkins of Wilmington, Del.; his stepmother, Evelyn Pierce of Millville; and two granddaughters.

Local services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. John's United Methodist Church, Fordville Road, Bridgeton. Arrangements are by the Carl Hatcher Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Va.

Garfield J. Pierce Sr. ~1936-2007

Garfield J. Pierce Sr., aged 71, of Fairfield Township, died suddenly at South Jersey Healthcare-Regional Medical Center on Thursday, May 31, 2007. The husband of Saretta E. Jones Pierce, he was born in Bridgeton, and was the son of the late Wayman A. Pierce Sr. and Agnes B. Pierce. He had been a lifetime resident of Fairfield Township.

Prior to his retirement in 1998, he had been employed with Cumberland Dairies in Bridgeton for 17 years. Before that he had worked for the former Merbeck Mfg. Co. for 91Ž2 years and with the former Shoemaker Dairies for 15 years. Garfield was an active member and elder of the Down Town Bridgeton Congregation, Jehovah¹s Witnesses. He loved traveling with his family, cooking and making model airplanes.

Besides his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Sherry L. Mosley and her husband, Clifton of Lawnside; 5 sons, Garfield J. Pierce Jr. and his wife, Leslie of Millville, C. Jeffrey Pierce and his wife, Yolanda of Vineland, Maurice A. Pierce and his wife, Maria of Bridgeton, Emery L. Pierce and his wife, Lorna of Magnolia and Charles G. Pierce and his wife, Mariluz of Bridgeton; two sisters, Maxine Green of Salem and Dorothy Dunn of Bridgeton; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald Pierce, Wayman Pierce Jr., Littleton Pierce and Richard W. Pierce; and three sisters, Agnes Johnson, Matilda Johnson and Martha Pierce.

A memorial funeral service will be held in the Kingdom Hall Jehovah¹s Witnesses, 691 Irving Ave., Bridgeton, on Saturday afternoon, June 9, at 2 o¹clock. Cremation will take place at Laurel Lawn Crematory, Upper Deerfield Township. Gary E. Pierce ~1951-2007

Gary E. Pierce, 56, of Englewood, Fla., died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at the Venice Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 4, 1950, in Bridgeton, N.J. to Lucy M. (Cuff) and Walter G. Pierce Sr.

Mr. Pierce moved to Florida from Bridgeton, N.J. in 1989 after his retirement as an Advertising Sales Representative for the Bridgeton Evening News for 18 years. Gary was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda (Queripel) Pierce of Englewood, Fla., and four sisters, Carolyn Colburn of Millville, N.J., Dorothy Mosley of Salem, N.J., Christine Bard of Bridgeton, N.J. and Dolores Jordon of Bridgeton, N.J.

Englewood Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service will handle arrangements.

 

Geraldine E. Pierce ~1926-1986

1.  Obituary: Geraldine E. Pierce, 60, of RD 2, Box 393 Sheppard’s Mill Road, died unexpectedly early Friday morning after suffering a heart attack at her home. Born in Upper Deerfield Township, the daughter of the late Ferdinand K., Sr. and Clara Carney Gould, she was the wife of Caleb Pierce. A lifetime area resident, she had resided at her present address for 33 years.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Pierce was employed by the Seibel & Stern Co. where she had worked for 40 years. She was a very active member of the St. John United Methodist Church in Fordville where she belonged to the Usher Board and served as Communion Steward. Mr. and Mrs. Pierce would have celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on Nov. 19.

In addition to her husband. she is survived by two sons, Darren W. Pierce of Fairton and Walter H Pierce, at home; two brothers. Ferdinand K. Gould, Jr. of. Stow Creek and William K. Gould of Greenwich; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph H. Gould in 1984 and Minous H. Gould in 1985.

Services will be held from he Garrison Funeral Home, 208 East Commerce Street on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Nyada Clark, pastor of the St. John United Methodist Church officiating. The interment will be made in Gouldtown Cemetery. Friends will be received .Monday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Burns Prove Fatal:  Accident Victim Dies.

A fiery automobile accident Saturday night which immediately took the life of a young woman, claimed its second victim Wednesday night.

Mrs. Gladys Pierce, 59, of Gouldtown-Fairton Road, died in Bridgeton Hospital at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday as a result of burns over 60 per cent of her body suffered in the accident.

Mrs. Angela Gail Carney, 19, who resided at Tips Trailer Park, died in the flaming car.

According to police reports, the two women were riding in a car which was struck from behind on Route 49 in Gouldtown, coming to rest on its roof against the Gouldtown Fire Hall, where it burst into flames.  Carl T. McCoy, 27, of West Virginia, the driver of the car which struck the one in which the women were riding, was lodged in the county jail after treatment at Bridgeton Hospital for cuts of the chin and mouth.

McCoy is charged with driving while impaired by alcohol, having no drivers license and taking a car without the owners permission.

Mrs. Pierce was born in Blackbird, Del., the  daughter of the late Henry and Minnie Durham Ridgway,  and was the wife of William H. Pierce who passed away in 1961.  She had been employed at the Wheaton Glass Co. in Millville.

The deceased was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gouldtown Fire Department and a member of the Young Peoples Progressive Club, Gouldtown.

Surviving are a son-in-law, Ephraim Mosley, Jr., of Bridgeton; two grandchildren; three brothers, Felix T. of Bridgeton, Manford N. of RD 7, and Tilghman D. Ridgway of RD 4;  two sisters, Mrs. Elias Pierce of Bridgeton and Mrs. Margaret Durham of RD 7 and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pierce was a member of  the St. John United Methodist Church, Fordville, and the pastor, the Rev. Adolphus A. Berry,  will conduct the funeral services Saturday at 8 p.m. from the church.  Interment will be Sunday morning at 9:30 at the Gouldtown Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects to the family Saturday from 7 to 8 prior to the service at the church.
